A technique

Post by Traveller13 » December 7th, 2007, 10:02 pm

I discovered this technique a few years ago.
At first I found out that it was useful as a relaxation exercise.
A bit later, I discovered that when you did it just before falling asleep, it could help trigger lucid dreaming and so-called "out of body" experiences.

Today, I discovered something else.
If you've ever got drunk on a night out, you've probably experienced that uncomfortable moment when you're trying to go to sleep, but your head tells you you're rocking in your bed and it becomes really hard to go to sleep because you feel like you're on a ship in the middle of a stormy sea. Therefore you can't sleep and have to change position every 2 minutes.
This technique will also help you get rid of this rocking sensation. I think it's because it makes you more aware of the present moment, and your own body. You can still feel the alcohol but somehow you feel more sober.

Here goes.
The idea is to feel the "energy" of your body. No matter if you believe that your body has some form of energy or not. You don't know that.
Now suppose there is one.
Visualise it as a blue light, with your eyes close, in a lying down position.
When you breathe in, you breathe in some of the energy of the world.
Breath is what makes you one with the rest of the universe.
So the idea is to breathe in what you visualise as blue light (it's air but you don't care at this stage) and imagine this energy fixating itself on your lungs.
And when you breathe out, that energy starts circulating in your bady.
Now, with only the power of your will, it is possible to direct this energy to a specific part of your body. Try it. When you do, you'll notice a tingling feeling emanating from it.
The technique is to do this in the following sequence:
breathe in (energy fixing itself on your lungs)
breathe out and direct the energy so that it circulates to your left foot
breathe in
breathe out: right ankle
breathe in
breathe out: right calve
breathe in
breathe out: right knee
breathe in
breathe out: right thigh
breathe in
breathe out: right buttocks
do the same with left leg, and then:
breathe in
breathe out: energy flowing along your spinal chord
breathe in
breathe out: your ribs
breathe in
breathe out: your stomach
breathe in
breathe out: your chest
breathe in
breathe out: neck
breathe in
breathe out: throat
breathe in
breathe out: cranium (energy covers your head like a helmet)
breathe in
breathe out: face

I find this to be a very good relaxation exercise at first. It can also be used for secondary tasks, like communicating with your subconscious or getting some sleep while over the alcohol limit.
