Fearless Prediction

Post by Lightning Rod » May 3rd, 2008, 7:05 pm

Fearless Prediction

note the timestamp on this post. The Kentucky Derby was run an hour ago.

This is my prediction:

This race will become a metaphor for the presidential race.

There were fifteen stallions and one filly running in the race.

Big Brown won. The filly came in second and broke her legs and had to be euthanized before the Indiana primary.

Just watch in the next few days. Cable TV and the blogs will have a field day with this. By Wednesday this will be the most worn-out metaphor on the airwaves--the comparison between the Kentucky Derby and the Democratic primary.

Fearless prediction.

L'R : "By Wednesday this will be the most worn-out metaphor on the airwaves--the comparison between the Kentucky Derby and the Democratic primary. "

if that comes to pass, amigo, i will kick your ass for ruining my news programs. one of the few things that piss me off is hearing some hook or clip from the tv/cable media being used over and over and over until the mute button no longer matters.

You got that right.

I have never read that book Clay. But I love H. L. M. Some feminists say he was a misogynist, About half the time, you sound like you are channelling him So you batting five hundred with me. The best ted williams ever did was .475

Some women and male feminists think he is a misogynist, but I think they are miss reading him.

I think this is a more accurate take on him. Just my opinion and you know what they say about those. I need a couple more bodily orifices to express all my opinions.

Just to be fair and balanced
The Troublesome Helpmate:
A History of Misogyny in Literature
Katherine M. Rogers
University of Washington Press, 1966
VII The Fear of Mom: The Twentieth Century

1) Women emasculate men when they consider themselves the equal of men.

2) H.L. Mencken, a confirmed misogynist, claims that:

Men destroy themselves trying to satisfy the (financial) needs of women.
Mother-love is the essence of exaltations of the woman's ego. In other words, mother-love is a selfish love because women get a sense of accomplishment from raising a child

Marriage is slavery with man the slave.

H.L sounds like a hell of a guy... someone you'd like to have a guy's night out with and shoot the shit about your mates. (out of ear shot, of course ;)).

Misogynist..? Sounds more like a man that is somehow mesmerized by the female species and all that she appears to be. Did he do most of his writing about women? He wasn't gay was he?

I don't think so MT
I write a lot about women and children myself
They seem so much more interesting than men.
Who knows I might be a latent homosexual myself
Some of us are lucky I guess
We get to choose
I chose not to be

They say all human embyros start out as female, not until after a while that the Y kicks in and the sexual differences emerges.

The talmud has a bit about thank you oh lord creator of the universe for making me not a woman

To me that means I get the woman as my lover, the best thing about being a man if you ask me.

Re: Did he do most of his writing about women? ...or is that what you meant by "I don't think so MT " ? I thought it had something to do with the gay thing.

call me lazy... i could just as well google the old boy and find out more about him instead of bugging you... but I like your answers.

"They say all human embyros [sic] start out as female, not until after a while that the Y kicks in and the sexual differences emerges."

I think 'they' be correct about that. But of course that is the physical characteristics. As far as the head-thing... it gets into the theoretical I presume. But that is another long drawn story not fit for this thread.

I just finished spray painting one of those outdoor, stackable, white plastic chairs... you know the kind... they're ubiquitous but rather comfortable. Anyway.. yesterday I spray painted one a very colorful red. SooZ dug it... wanted to pick another color for the other chair. We went to Lowes and knocked heads and reached an agreement on yellow. It's done... well, almost. There's bound to be a spot or two I missed.. like yesterday's red. I save about two minutes of spray to get those little misses. But the thing that pisses me off, Jack, is the damn wind is startin' to kick up again! After such a quiet day yesterday, and now those damned 'they' are talkin' about heavy gusts this p.m.. I really don't like them gusts. They get up pretty damn high on the speed scale : 40-50 mph... raising hell and my stress levels. I really feel sorry for those folks in central TX that get those same winds after they hit the hillcountry - FtW/Dallas and beyond. (wait! are you in the winds sights where you hang your monitor? )

Dang! the clock on this screen shows 12:40 and I'm hungry. I think SooZ already chowin' down. Which means I can just make me own.

Later.. and sorry for the long ramble., but I know you know how it is.. sometime.

I appologize Clay
if I have got to far afield about pundits and h l mencken
e-dog once told me to fuk off
on my own thread no less

Just thinking about women all the time clay, I suppose that is what 29 years of holding your own will do to you.

even those elephants were women in a way. I don't remember who brought up the subject of sex here.

Interested in metaphors about the news,
also.

so what is happening has your perdiction come true,

No idea
what fearless predictions got to do with misogony (sic, I am so wasted the words are starting to squiggle and I don't recognize the word anymore, the sic is for spelling, but I think I spelled right anyway  )too many dots to connect
TMI
just cross threaded again

I appreciate your benign neglect.

Cecil I am sorry if the typos annoy you. D lets me slide on it, I am just a spoiled brat. What can I say. If I ever do do a chapbook I will edit carefuly and send you a copy if you want one. Till then this is spontaneous and if any typos pop out at you I am grateful to know about them. Bennie wrote a piece last week that was so perfect, only one typo which I almost told him about but was able to restrain anything that sounded like criticism, it was that kind of beautiful reading moment,

Best I can do is a haiku now and then
till then I am back editing
cleaning up spelling and typos and stuff like that.
I am going for enhanced verbiage.

Now I am done Clay
