'Dubya' and his Gang of Neo Cons are attempting to continue their war on Iraq at any cost, even if Americans want out. The pledge of the Democrats be damned, Bush is still out to get his way.
A startling new article released today by The Independent (UK) -

Revealed: Secret plan to keep Iraq under US control
Bush wants 50 military bases, control of Iraqi airspace and legal immunity for all American soldiers and contractors

By Patrick Cockburn
Thursday, 5 June 2008
A secret deal being negotiated in Baghdad would perpetuate the American military occupation of Iraq indefinitely, regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election in November.
The terms of the impending deal, details of which have been leaked to The Independent, are likely to have an explosive political effect in Iraq. Iraqi officials fear that the accord, under which US troops would occupy permanent bases, conduct military operations, arrest Iraqis and enjoy immunity from Iraqi law, will destabilize Iraq's position in the Middle East and lay the basis for unending conflict in their country.

I saw that this morning.
I did not read the full story yet just skimmed it in the newspaper. They are trying to sneak it through before January. Is it not some kind of treaty that has to be ratified by congress?
Don't we live in such interesting times. I feel uncomfortable speaking to military matters, all full of quacker propaganda that I am.
The president of the united states has other responsibilities besides being commander and chief. Ain't you getting tired of the pictures of McCain in Iraq yet?
Ike went to Korea and the war (woops, the police action ended)
So Obama got to go to Iraq I suppose.
What jacks my jaws is that the war was in Afghanistan, they been kicking everybodies ass for the past two hundred years. They even kicked the British Empire's ass back in the days When Britannia Ruled the Waves
Kicked the Russians asses and now they getting read to kick ours...?
Oh what the hell. sorry for the ramble
don't mind me cecil
I am not feeling no pain
I lost count, at four thousand and eighty five dead heroes, I can't deal with it when I am stoned. I check the daily casualties like I used to check out the box scores for the Orioles.
I say a prayer for the black irishman's secrete service detail.

My two cents... Obama should not go anywhere near Iraq. Don't let previous ignorance and arrogance dictate where you should and shouldn't go. Tell previous ignorance to go fuck itself, with appropriate compassion of course.

I think you are right mnaz, he should not go but you know McCain sure looks like a commander in chief in those photo ops from Iraq.
Last I read Obama plans to go there in a few months.

Considering how this is now in the open, just how could such a treaty or deal be "sneaked" past government officials with no oversight?

Apparently the UN authorization under which the excuse was made to send the troops there expires in December. So now they are trying to negotiate a new deal but so far the Iraqi's dont want no part of it.
A lot of sneaky deals they trying to get by with as corrupt incompetent criminal administration slouches towards the end. Also trying to freeze political appointees in their jobs so it will be harder for the next administration to remove them.
