Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, 'My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.'

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?'

The old Cherokee simply replied, 'The one you feed.'
i got this in my email. I don't know who originally wrote it.

This begs the question why some feed one wolf, and some feed the other.
IOW, the winning wolf had already won before the "fight's" begun.
IOW, the winning wolf is also the one who feeds the winning wolf.
IOW, no real fight, no real contending wolf.

Non Sum,

I believe some people feed the wrong wold because they don't know any better. They don't realize they have a choice. Their human emotions, anxieties, fears, etc. are in control of them, not the other way around. I suspect we all feed the wrong wolf from time to time.

Being aware of the nature of how it works is the first step to controlling it and feeding the right wolf!

What is "IOW"?

Hi doreen,
Like wolves, there are also good and bad wolf feeders, each more prone than not to feed the wolf that makes the most sense to them. Behaviors and tastes (moral, sexual, combative, gustatory, etc.) all fall along a number line of natural inclinations, with only a small minority ever standing at dead (could go either way) center. We often 'feel' that our inner debates could go either way, but just ask those who know us well, and they'll admit (if honest) that your ultimate choice was easy (for them) to predict.

In Other Words (IOW), the game is basically fixed.

Sorry, about the 'IOW.' I thought it safely common enough to use. I was wrong, and the wolf made be do it.
Besides, I wanted to try out my new 'IOW' key.

(I'm not too hip on all the internet acronyms. ;))

Enjoying this conversation. It definitely is an issue which can be explored in a great deal of depth. I like reading your take on it.

No time to explore it more right now, but just wanted to stop by and say thanks and happy holidays to you!

Nice to have you here at the Studio.
