I agree wholeheartedly with you on this L'Rod. If we spent even half of what is spent towards defense on peace and understanding, it would benefit not only the U.S. but the world.

Your post reminded me of George saying everybody wants freedom and that liberty is the inherent right of all peoples, which I agree with completely. But he seems to ignore that these same terrorists want their freedom also... freedom from opression and poverty, etc..

Viva the Absurdist Party!

oppression and poverty

I'm beginning to think that the word freedom itself is becoming oppressive.
So many of us, landed in poverty and oppressed right now, all for the big freedom word.
There is no such thing as freedom, except in our minds.
That is being lost too, as our minds become crowded with fear.

What will you do when everything you have is eventually lost to the cause for freedom and you've become a prisoner of the cause, and you've lost your job, your house, your stability?
This has happened to me. The more this fight for freedom, the more imprisoned and stuck and vulnerable this soldier has become.
From this fight for my freedom, all I want to do now is to escape.
I think it's time to start creating a place to escape to.
any ideas?

hester,

There is an interesting book that you might like to read on this subject. It's called Beyond Freedom & Dignity by B.F. Skinner.

I'm no big behaviorist but this book has some thoughts to offer on the value of 'freedom' as a concept.

I had a college professor one time that told me that anyone who really was seeking freedom had to expect, at one time or another, to be imprisoned. I think he was right.
