It seems that I need to give background info, & qualify my statements. First, as you already might know, I respect & admire certain aspects of Latino culture & language. I am pro-immigrant rights & I am a Democrat. My father was a Russian-American & we adopted the American name of my step Grandpa on my father's side. I have lived in California, Florida, & Texas during our various travels.

Also, as I said, British claims to the islands in question predate some American
claims to portions of our own West & Southwest. It is true that the British
have continuously occupied the Falkland Islands since 1833. The islands are
British soil. I am sorry that Argentina fought a war with Britain in the 1980s
nearly to this date thirty years ago. Britain was the winner of the war, just
like they won the war in the 1830s etc. (Florida was purchased by the USA
and ceded from Spain in 1819 during the Monroe Administration. It was once
a "prefect" of Cuba, a colony of Spain until around 1820...) All the colonies
of Spain became independent at or around 1820, including Argentina.

America, to give contrast, had settlers in Texas who won a war with Mexico in the 1830s. Texas was briefly an independent republic and then agreed to join the United States and was annexed. Then the USA had a war with Mexico and
we won that war. The Mexican Cession was admitted to the union which included California. Then we purchased the Gadsden (sic) Purchase in the
southwest USA from Mexico in 1853 and we had our continental borders stabilized until the present time, after our horrible Civil War (1861-1865).

Our relations with Britain improved after the War of 1812 & our Civil War.
We have common interests & have helped Britain, France, & other European
countries during World Wars 1 & 2. Our relations with Argentina have not
been that cordial until the last thirty years. We opposed the various dictatorships there and were happy when, after the Falklands War, the
government there became more democratic. During the same time period,
our relations with Spain & Russia have improved. (We fought a war with Spain
in 1898.) We had a Cold War conflict by proxy with the old Soviet Union which
lasted through the 1980s. After relations thawed, in the 1990s, in both Argentina, Spain, & Russia, there is a new world peace opportunity in certain
parts of the globe.

By "De Facto", or culturally, in the same time period, our country has had a
large influx of both legal & illegal Latino immigrants. Latinos are now the
largest minority in our country & I accept that. However, I do not accept
the sabotage & undermining of our neighbors governments by terrorist drug cartels & underground elements in our country trying to provoke a new civil war
in the southwest. We are rapidly becoming a bilingual country as is Canada.
I think that folks who immigrate here should be required to learn our language, English, as well. It would help if more of us would learn Spanish.

Both my sister & I have trouble learning foreign languages. However, my brothers are better at learning other languages. My daughter & one of her
cousins, either minored or majored in Spanish in college. I am proud that
my daughter is a college graduate & speaks Spanish.

So, when any of you criticize or debate my opinions, remember that you are dealing with a multi-ethnic person, quite capable of "trolling with equal time",
who has two degrees from some of the oldest land-grant universities in the USA.
Thank you very much for posting, G-d bless, & have a nice week. :)

Remember, "to the victor, go the spoils of war". Oil has recently been discovered in the vicinity of the Falkland Islands, see video article, and belongs to Britain & the British citizens settled in the Falkland Islands. I think it is time that Argentina accepts the fact that Britain owns the Falkland Islands. It has been thirty years
since current British victory, and trade needs to be re-established just like we
did with both Russia, Spain, and Vietnam...

I grew up with great admiration for the english speaking people but that was back during world war two when it seemed so easy to pick out who the good guys were.

love peace and taco grease to all the kind folk and gentle people back on top of Rocky Top Tennessee.

I always am amused everytiime I see the Tennessee flag fying upside down about half the time.

Steve: I can´t sintonize at all with your side of the story, but sure I respect you! :D Despite I feel & think USA international politics have been extremely pathetic, dangerous, injust & foolish for a loooooong time and I don´t agree with a lot of internal matters in your country, I love some of your music & literature (and all of you here!) and that´s great (at least for me!)!

And no, I don´t think it´s a good idea that Malvinas kept being under British occupation, of course! But I doubt the kelpers want something like a spring there at the moment...!

Arcadia, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on the Falklands. I didn't
really expect to be agreed with. I was trying to see where folks stood &
if there was any "wiggle room" for compromise. Basically, it appears that the British are there to stay, is all that I am saying. I think American companies are
down there, too. (BP oil is just about everywhere, including our arctic state of
Alaska.)

I am worried a bit about oil spills because of what has happened off the coasts
of Mexico, Scotland, and the USAs gulf states. I wonder if they have a
protocol in mind in case of an oil disaster happening. I don't know which
way the maritime currents flow, but it seems that Argentina would be the
next place hit in case of an oil slick occurence. We have an arctic coastline
in Alaska which worries us, too. Patagonia, as I have seen in photos is a
beautiful area in Argentina and I'd hate to see its coast get all slicked up by oil. :( All the world needs to realize this type of problem especially today on
EARTH DAY. Have a good one, and may your air & water, & food stay safe.

Jose Marti is still in Tampa, but no worries.
In 50 years, my county, Pinellas, will be under water.

Head for the hills!
Keep ther Malvinas tradition alive.
Damn British Petroleum.
Next time, Argentina, don't run out of supplies!!!!!! :x
The glaciers are melting in Patagonia and
the ice shelf in Antarctica and the seals
and penguins have no place to lay their heads.

Steve, don't toss the history of these wars off as righteous or without shame.
In the Spanish-American War, a set-up from the get-go (Remember the Maine!, Remember the Gulf of Tonkin?) the U.S. Army allied with the Cuban Freedom Fighters. After the war, Jose Marti "died," and the Freedom Fighters were ignored. The entire Spanish Colonial Administration was kept in place.
In the Phillipines, American forces killed 200,000 Tagalog Huks, nationalists. Now that country in an appendage to our own.

After rescuing France twice in the 20th century, when in WW2 the French colonial government in Indochina turned Vichy Axis, we refused the Vietnamese call for recognition. The neo-colonialist era began. We are now colonized within our own nation.

Argentina would have nationalized the south Atlantic oilfields and assured adequaTE safety protocols. We have blind cancerous shrimps in the Gulf of Mexico and swimmers are picking up toxins on their skin from the dispersing agents that also killed normal oil eating bacterias. And all the domestically produced crude oil is being exported, for oil speculators on the commodities market.

Britian is as corrupt as anyone.
At least the Argentines are finally opening.
