This bit reminded me of a short story by Kerouac, maybe the only sci fi he ever wrote cityCityCITY I think it was called, had us all on the grid.

The technology the guy was using was amazing, I was totally fascinated watching, it was so nicely coreographed the dance between the police and the people who looked like veterans, and the camera crew was great.
Every once in a while they would show pictures of the cops in riot gear up around michigan avenenue, they looked like they were waiting for someone, then a little later there were shots of black and red flags and people wearing black balaclavas and then everthing went black, it was good television thanks for the link jim.
