When Reagan got elected there was a Shift

Post by mnaz » November 3rd, 2017, 3:15 am

When Reagan got elected there was a shift
back toward the politics of max resource extraction
and conquest and fuck you if you can't keep up, and though various so-called "leaders" have tried to intervene since then, we don't want a hear anything except we're great and our shit never stinks, and it's time to pretty much make money or die.

Agreed?

Yes now that you mentioned it I do agree.
Weird how Reagan is being deified. I expect to hear heavenly harp music when some politician speaks his name oh so reverently.

When Reagan got elected there was a Shift - yeah, from shit to more shit but it didn't begin with him. Of course we are great. Why do you think we have so many enemies foreign & domestic ? Everybody got something to say 'bout what the United States does. Why? because we are nothing ? No, it's because we are something, for better or worse. Does anyone have anything to say when Lithuania does something ? Norway ? NewFoundland ? The Netherlands ?
Fuck no. Why ? Because those places ain't great and nobody gives a shit 'bout what they do. Or are.

It is a brave new world and what is good for facebook™ and twitter™ is good for the USSR boys. I am a first generation native of this land. My family the teeming refuse of foreign shores. Yes we carved a new life out of the American Indian. This country has been good to my family. That is why I love it. Even so,where is Randolph Bourne when we need him? Oh Johnny I hardly knew ya.
So, fellow Firesign fans, line up, sign up, and re-enlist today! ... a golden opportunity for humble God fearing people, like ourselves, our children and the generations a'comin' to carve a new life out of the ... American Indian!

Then crossing the Appalachians into the Ohio River country we was singing "Godzilla" by Blue Oyster Cult and the Indians was running through the jungle all the way to the great grasslands - ) O Yeah Mongolia ! and the moon shot weren't far behind !

It's been Folly & Foolishness & Mayhem & Hallelujah ! every step of the way.

Greed kills. Everything.

Hey Truck, I have that same toilet (generic issue of course)! A Kohler, I think...

Midas must've taken a crap on that one.

10—4 On the Kohler, that is the model the artist had in mind.
For “America” Cattelan replaced the toilet in this restroom with a fully functional replica cast in 18-karat gold, making available to the public an extravagant luxury product seemingly intended for the 1 percent. Its participatory nature, in which viewers are invited to make use of the fixture individually and privately, allows for an experience of unprecedented intimacy with a work of art. Cattelan’s toilet offers a wink to the excesses of the art market but also evokes the American dream of opportunity for all—its utility ultimately reminding us of the inescapable physical realities of our shared humanity.

How America Lost Its Mind
The Triumph of the Fantasy-Industrial Complex

The nation’s current post-truth moment is the ultimate expression of mind-sets that have made America exceptional throughout its history.
The Atlantic September 2017[/quote]
R.K. Johnson for the atlantic.jpg
Cut and Paste
The American experiment has metastasized out of control. Being American now means we can believe anything we want.. . .

The 1980s and the Smog of Subjectivity moved from the crackpot periphery to the mainstream. Fewer than half of all Americans inhabit fact-based reality....

How the Right Became More Unhinged Than the Left
The Reagan presidency was famously a triumph of truthiness and entertainment, and in the 1990s, as problematically batty beliefs kept going mainstream, presidential politics continued merging with the fantasy-industrial complex...

The way internet search was designed to operate in the ’90s—that is, the way information and beliefs now flow, rise, and fall—is democratic in the extreme. Internet search algorithms are an example of Gresham’s law, whereby the bad drives out—or at least overruns—the good. On the internet, the prominence granted to any factual assertion or belief or theory depends on the preferences of billions of individual searchers. Each click on a link is effectively a vote pushing that version of the truth toward the top of the pile of results....

Trump doesn’t like experts, because they interfere with his right as an American to believe or pretend that fictions are facts....

sur·re·al·ism
səˈrēəˌlizəm/
noun
noun: surrealism

a 20th-century avant-garde movement in art and literature that sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images.

I suppose that means that the news is getting more creative.

I hope that is good news. :? I don't think surreal means what a lot of people think it does. Or at least what it used to mean. Nothing much creative about President Tweet. Thinking about John Waters being so cynical about the sixties, all the love and peace hype. He saw it as a fad, the war mongers and mean ass greedy people were going to win. Sorry if I am wandering all over your thread. Jim Beam has been good to me the past couple of days. I am thinking about becoming an alcoholic if it is not too late
