If the economy carries on aiming towards exp(on)ansion, and if there is only a finite amount of resouces on Earth, how do you forsee the future?
The amount of resources on the planet isn't infinite. This argument alone counters every economical theory promoting "growth". It's technically impossible to carry on indefinately like we're doing now. Either we stabilise or engage in a counter-growth economy, or gamble on "we'll surely find a way before nothing's left".
How much time can we continue growing before the machine explodes? I read an interview with a spokesman from a fossil fuel lobby who said he only gave the aeroplane industry 10 years to live.
Moreover scarce resources will be cut off from the public before they run out completely. For example the army needs oil more high-prioritarily than civilians (from a gov point of view) so once there's only very little left, they'll get the rest.
Have you considered the problem before? Do you think you'll live to see the day the Earth crashes, if it ever comes? Are you taking measures to counter or balance it's effects?

The crash of planet Earth

Hi Traveller,
"If the economy carries on aiming towards exp(on)ansion, and if there is only a finite amount of resouces on Earth, how do you forsee the future?"
I am draivin the laast of the V-8's doiwn a streatch of deasert highwaiy. My dag, named "Daggy", sits in the passeanger seat lulled into ease by the soothiang dull humm of the engiane. I am Mad, Mad Treavor...lol...sorry that was supposed to be my Aussie accent and the story of how I survive in a post-apocalyptic society. But seriously, for me, you are preaching to the converted. I agree with you. Some people say we are like viruses, attacking our host until it is dead...I'd rather think of us as yeast, growing in numbers, and consuming our environment until we suffocate to death in our own bi-product because we have no restraint.
Anyways, originally I had posted more, but after re-reading what I wrote I thought, fuck it, its a long weekend here in Canada and I can't be bitter all the time. I'm going to vacation away from Angryville this weekend, or at least try to put the blinders on for at least a couple days so I don't grab grand daddy's shotgun and paint a third eye on my forehead.
But nonetheless, good post Traveller. So since I'm not my usual hot winded self tonight, perhaps I can ask you what is your opinion on what the future holds? Do you think we'll pull on the reigns in time?

For me, it's like the first and second world war. We're already in the preliminary phase of something, even though it's not official yet.
A friend told me that the main source of drinkable water for the US was in Canada, and that if Canada stopped giving water to the US they'd take it as a declaration of war. I don't think it's a lie but I still want to check that info.
Just to say that, in my opinion, we already are in a world war, even if it's just a preliminary phase. It could be another decade before it's official. The third world war is the petroleum wars, the water wars, etc. On top of that add American and European liberal-imperialism, all those who want white blood to spill, etc.
Most of us are very confused at the moment, as we live in a context where survival rule number one is being active. To be receptive, to listen to your self, slows you down, and is termed as counter-productive. Anything related to that is shunned by society, which is turning people away from what they are to "protect" them.
As a result, confusion and conflict arise in a lot of people, and as we separate ourselves more and more from our true nature, we shall express our conflict in the reality we create: fighting, mass killing, and other things which society has taught us to be highly immoral. I don't think it's bad, it's just the way humans are choosing to be expressing themselves. Or the part of them which they have turned away from.

In reality I don't really have an opinion about it. What will happen will happen, I don't have any hopes or bad thoughts about the future. I prefer to work at focusing myself in the now, and paying attention to the present.
