Why in the HELL is any George Bush nomination of ANYONE being taken seriously at this point????
Give me one good reason why.........
I'm not asking for a fucking explanation okay, I mean puleeese, spare me another fucking explanation. ugh.
I just want a reason why.....pure and simple, no sass, no chavinistic brush offs, no jesus freak or guru logic.
Just a reason why. No frills, chills, or ohms.
I'm waiting, (rather desperately).
I just cannot figure it out.
Thanks

dagnabit woman to paraphrase Tina Turner, "What the hell has reason got to do with it." We are way past reason in this current congress. To parahrase jimboloco, "Its the rapture man." there are far more important motivations for his base than reason. It is building, just give it some time hester cause "reasonable politicians and a few journalists with integrity, and a few lawyers, and more citizens than you might think are moving in on him with the wrath
shit how does that song go, he has unleashed the fury of too many security moms.
hey this is going to be great when I spell check it and punctuate, fix a few typos I am sure it will then make perfect sense

yeah good answer Cecil, I wish I had not ranted. "I used to stand and wonder, now I only stand" I can see plenty of reasons, but they are irrational reasons, I can go there I can feel his energy, I got my night goggles on, but I stand outside and lean on the gate and stare at mars. and feel Venus's bright light on my shoulders, no moon in sight. And think about the mythology of war and the father lies. This is starting to sound like an episode of The Shadow, "who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men..."
sorry hester, it did not mean anything, just a mindless rambling jack

Dear Hester:
What strikes me as odd among these right-winger-proto-fascist attempts to control all the branches of government ( they already control the legislative and the executive-- headed for control of the judicial), is the phoney "spiritual" component.
I've listened to evaluations of Alito by evangelicals, Republican pundits ( like Bill Kristol, co-founder of the Project for the New American Century and its current chairman) and other anti-life anti-imagination anti-joy true believers, and they all return to the "life" issues.
If "life" were really an issue, why wouldn't Bush withdraw the troops who are blown up daily in Iraq? Why wouldn't he fight to end capital punishment instead of ok-ing 152 executions as Texas governor?
Read Sister Prejean's ( I am a great fan of hers) article, originally published in The New York Review of Books:
http://www.nybooks.com/articles/17670
Why oh why?
Why cut food stamp programs? Bush just ok-ed a cut for 250,000 Americans on food stamps. School lunch programs?
Why bivouac the National Guard in Iraq when they should have been available for Katrina -- even to save some of the lives lost?
Why ok the funding of production and research for a new generation of nukes ( in 2003):
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/artic ... _research/
Then apparently drop the "bunker buster" aspect of it on October 26, 2005. But did he really?
Here is a link on the new nuclear arms race Bush ( and others) have tried to promulgate:
(the "Dr. Strangelove" meeting, among other things . . .)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,1 ... 90,00.html
Nuclear weapons are the greatest death engine ever invented by mankind.
How is all of this "pro-life"?
I fully understand that the target is Roe v. Wade, not any sensible version of making life better on planet Earth.

All very valid points,
Z. But the question remains - "Why Bush?"

Here's one answer to your question:
http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0307/S00147.htm
And here's another:
http://www.freepress.org/departments/di ... /2005/1318
Or the explanation I like best, because it's literary, and involves George Orwell:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... 244190.DTL
“We don't want to destroy the infrastructure of Iraq, because in a few days we are going to own that country.”
--Tom Brokaw, March 2003
For some analysis of this and other network news commentary on the opening of the US War on Iraq, go here:
http://www.democracynow.org/hardball-041203.shtml
And one final link. The monster SPIN AND SMEAR machine of Bushco has already lumbered into action against Fitzgerald's indictment and case against Libby:
http://www.antiwar.com/justin/?articleid=7908
You will not be seeing any of this information and analysis on your television.
Ever.
Peace,

Well, the reason it's taken seriously is because he's the president.
And the president is the one who nominates people to be Supreme Court justices.
It's very serious, because Supreme Court justices have their jobs for their entire lives.
It's really stupid if you ask me to give anybody a lifelong job, especially someone in such an important position.
So, we can go on hating the president's arrogance and ignorance and foriegn policy and elitism and imperialism AND we can decide that the nominee is not qualified for the position or will be biased and screw up the laws of the land, but we have no say in whether the nomination is approved or disapproved.
President Bush's nomination(s) must therefore be taken very seriously even though you and I agree that he's an idiot.
*sigh*
That's the best way I know how to answer your question.
It sucks, but it's the reality of the situation.

PS - Sorry to offer an explanation but I had no other way to phrase it. That's why. Because he's president and he has the power to appoint Supreme Court justices. Serious stuff. Seriously.

Yeah that about sums it up Doreen. It sucks. For now. I am trying to be practical, don't look for much improvement until 2006, clean house, there are enough senators and congresswomen/men who voted against the war to feed lots of stories to main stream media, joe six pack going to get a belly full of it, and so will the queen of his double wide with the polyester curtains and the red wood deck. The damage will be done for us by then, the next twenty years look grim as far as the supreme court goes. I am trying not to be pissed at Sandra Day for resigning.

Bush is President. He has demonstrated to infinity by now that he can't be trusted, both in judgment and integrity. Therefore, all of his exercises of Presidential power should be intensely scrutinized. His judgment is not to be taken too seriously at this point, but the potential consequences of his judgment should be taken as seriously as a heart attack.

Isn't that what I said?
Well, I tried anyway... heh...
Oh man... you said it so much better.
Exactly!

Actually, Doreen, upon further review, I see that my post is not only succinct, as I intended, but also redundant. You definitely covered the the bases with your answer....

So, what i'm getting here is that the reason is really quite simple.
Because he's the President. Period. Nothing else matters but that. He can continue his wrecking ball tactics because, he is the Prez.
Forget about the fact that he has proven himself a liar, a thief, a cold blooded idiot, forget the fact that his iq is really low, forget the fact that he is going to continue to abort life as we knew it and send us all out on the streets begging for food, warmth and shelter, or dying for lack of it.
He's the president. So be it! Amen. Hallelujah! Close your eyes and let it roll baby roll.
You have to excuse me.
I have been starry eyed for so long about America that it's a rude, disappointing wake up call.
And, I still wanna say shame on us. Because to me this says, that once you get the job, no matter how craftily you got it, no matter how many lies you told to get it, it doesn't matter. Once you get the job, you can do whatever the fuck you want to anyone and it's alright. You can incite wars for bogus reasons, you can kill, you can hire your wimpy, talentless, spineless friends, you can take away creature comforts from hardworking folks, hell, you can take a big steaming shit on the constitution of the United States Of America and get away with it, because man, once you're president, well, you can do whatever the fuck you want.
I'm gonna go read Zlatko's links now.
Thank you all for your responses, they all make sense, Doreen, Mnaz, yes, he is the president. That is all he needs to be to destroy us. There is no other criteria.
No wonder the presidency attracts people like the ones in the white house now!
I've just been a fool all my life thinking it was different, thinking it was better.
Stilltruckin, I hope you are right......
Cec, that moon view really rocks!

I suppose Israel, Canada, The UK have it over our system. They can throw the bums out anytime with a vote of no confidence. I used to think our system was the best too, but parlimentary sounds better than our winner take all for four years. But it ain't going to change anytime soon.
Yeah he is the president for at least another year. How about a nice impeachment when the new congress takes office in 2007. Isn't that a pretty thought?
not to change the subject but:
I been wondering about the two bright lights I have seen this week, one to the east I am pretty sure it is mars, and behind me to the west I see a very bright object, Venus? I don't know why it calms me so much to look at the sky. It seems to put it all in perspective. Cheers me up. Got any butter fingers left? I gained eight pounds the past two weeks. Have another butterfinger on me. I been sitting around counting my chins today. Caught my reflection in the mirror of my motorcycle.
