I was three days away from turning fifteen. It was morning and I was getting ready for school when I was hearing the radio that during the night John Lennon was shot and killed. I had never heard of his name before or for that matter knew of what he was famous for doing in his lifetime. While I was making my lunch I happen to look down at a newspaper and it had a picture showing him when he was in the Beatles. It wouldn't be until some years later that I found out who he was and what he stood for as a person. Now I'm about to turn 40 which was the same age as John Lennon when it all ended for him. Oh how ironic life can be!!!! But I will remember him and life will go on for me!!!!

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

How about I tell you where I was on 12/08/2005?

Eight thirty AM listened to NPR interview with him from 1975.
He was talking about the break up and not wanting to still be singing “I saw her face” when he was forty. I think the interview was with Dick Cavett.
I decided to move my birthday forward one day and celebrate it today

5:30 PM saw the Simpson Episode that starts with the song “that will be the day”

I knew who he was Dav. My baby sister was about ten when they came to the states.

I was forty years old the day he died. I think it was the same age as him. I mixed my birthday up with the temporary collappse of his wave form on 12/08. Lost so much music by the time I was forty, maybe the first for me was Buddy Holly.

Yeah I saw her face and now and I am still a believer
I think he had just met Ono in the interview with Dick Cavett.

Artman
you took my breath away with lennon #9 , thank you

I was on the Big Island of Hawaii (Kona), tending bar.
that evening the bar was quite loud and drunk. I stood
up and made the announcement, and the place stayed
drunk, but it became silent. Within minutes people shuffled
from their seats to the bar, to gather and talk quietly. I felt
in the midst of the tradegy these people were brought
together. After all wasn't that John Lennons' way?

That is the Imagine Mosaic from Strawberry Fields, NYC (in Central Park)

Its located across from the Dakota Apartments where John Lennon was shot, first opened to the public in October, 1985.

Here's more pictures if you're interested:

mmmmm... twelve years. Sure I saw something on tv. At school we listened to The Bee Gees, Olivia Newton John, Kiss, John Travolta and Rod Steward without knowing a word in english. At home jazz, boleros, italian music and folklore...
I discovered Lennon and the Beatles in highschool times thanks to some friends and one of my uncles that was married with a beatles fan for some years.

i was in Santa Cruz
it was warm and sunny
doing group therapy
Lennon's death was just one more fallen hero
everybody sweet and great was done in
there was no hope
just shades of green
and cool sea current
next year down and out NYC
walked by the Dakota
then back to my cage
at the zoo

December 1980 I was in Rockville Maryland. A dark time for me, a desperate time, my one joy, my one ray of sunshine was music. A musician friend of mine and my bably sister were going out together. He played every lick that Leo Kottke did on Jesu the Joy of Man's Desire, four finger picks and a thumb I think, I have never heard so much music come out one guitar. I was happy, my sister was one a man trip, took his heart and cut into pieces. His solution was to get drunk and kick in the kitchen window, me and him wrestling on the kitchen floor among the broken glass. A dark time for me.

I was pretty numb all ready by the time he died. I can hardly remember what I felt.

Thank you for the link,

Maryland. I was engaged to my first husband who was just getting out of the military (Marines). I was in my late twenties, my fiance in his early twenties. I took him to visit a friend of mine who was a former lover of mine who remained a friend of mine. My friend had a girlfriend who was fired up on dope, PCP, I think. She asked me to go for a walk with her ... to walk her dog... and I didn't know she was mentally deranged.... totally wack.

We walked the dog for about five minutes then she tied the dog's leash to a tree and confronted me.

"You're sleeping with my man!," she said and I said, "No I'm not! Where'd you get that idea?"

"You ARE and I know it and it's going to stop!," she said and I said, "No, I'm not. I am engaged to be married. I brought my fiance with me. He's upstairs in the apartment talking to your man. What's wrong with you?" and she attacked me.

She threw me down on the ground and proceeded to beat the shit outa me. I pushed and kneed her in the chest and tried to get her off me and she grabbed me by the hair and took my head and beat it against the corner of a curb repeatedly. I don't know how many times she beat my head against that curb but it seemed like an eternity. I screamed, "Get the fuck offa me!" and blacked out.... woke up to see my fiance standing over me holding my head in his hands. My head was bleeding. My skull had been cracked. I was terrified. I thought I was going to die.

My fiance called a cab for us. We got in the cab and debated about whether to take me to the hospital. I didn't want to go because I was high and I thought I would be arrested.

My head was swollen up so much, I thought my brains were popping out of my skull.

The cab driver had the radio on and an announcer interrupted the broadcast to tell about John Lennon being shot.

That's where I was. I was lucky I didn't meet John that night.

doreen, if that weren't real, i'd swear you made it up.
In the cab, you heard the news

Guess you were still functioning.

Where was i?
Don't have a clue.
i could make fake a scenario but probably i was in the middle of some quasi-cool university co-ed dorm thing, listening to my neighbour's Dead through a very thin wall. Probably i didn't hear till the next morning. Probably as jim said, i thought, shit, not again.

but i don't know.
