AOL has changed their Terms of Service for AIM. They now include the right for AOL to use anything and everything you send through AIM in any way they see fit.

A sample passage:
...by posting Content on an AIM Product, you grant AOL, its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, agents and licensees the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to reproduce, display, perform, distribute, adapt and promote this Content in any medium. You waive any right to privacy.

Watch what you say. The NIA might be listening.

I always read the fine print. But I sign my life anyway.

Come to think of it I have never read the fine print here
I remember litkicks was accused of the same thing.

I wish I knew, seems like AOL is a pretty trashy place. Google too, Do no evil my ass. Makes me feel like I am driving a gas guzzling SUV, we want the technology, we want the internet, what the hell we going to do, yeah freedom is not free. You probably have no idea what I am talking about, because I don't either.

I mean is there alternatives, open source software gnu, linux, firefox, how can we avoid these corporate pigs. I remember Reed street back in Baltimore around mount vernon square a real hip neighbor hood back in the sicties. All kinds of little shops. SOmebody spray painted "Hip capitalism is pig capitalism."

What do you think, I am not an instant messanger. Except for these open text boxes that get too long.

a passage from a prior, rejected draft of AOL terms o service:

you grant AOL, its parent company, subsidiaries and authorized affiliates the perpetual right to the possession of your immortal soul, mind, spirit, vital force and/or life-essence for any use which it deems necessary or appropriate. You pledge not to defame, criticize or question the authority, prestige, honor, value and quality of service of AOL or any of its corporate partners. You hereby transfer all privacy rights and reproductive freedoms to AOL, as well as the franchise and right to work or not to work, or to receive wages, any legal privileges or human rights notwithstanding. Valid even where prohibited.
