I was publishing regularly in the 1960's and 1970's, but I was never invited to the White House.

Sam Hamill's organization is a fine one, and I have linked to it myself on this board more than once before.

Artists can do more than complain; they can refuse to cooperate to the extent that is possible without being imprisoned. The artist functions best in freedom, but can survive captivity.

It's the captivity of the spirit that is wrong with this country-- that, and the absolute rule by corporation and business motives.

Bush, Cheney and the gang of miscreants called Congress, mostly governed by people like Jack Abramoff, are only the fingers and hands of this hideous perversion of spirit. Television is the brain.

One must say no, and ( as Carlyle said) "No again in thunder" to this plan of theirs. You are right when you advocate getting heard in a mass mailing.

For only the mass and its whimsy and life can turn this awful juggernaut of murder and greed around.

I wish, at 60, I could say I had hope like I did in 1968. But there have been too many Nixons, too many Cheneys, too many MacNamaras and Melvin Lairds and John Poindexters and Negropontes and Sununus and so on, endlessly.

The supply of such "leaders" is apparently unlimited.

I recommend reading "Madame Bovary." It provides a fine view of the human cross-section. Yes, it's 1856 in that novel, but its truth is universal and lasting.

I am beat, man. We will see what happens in Iraq, the impending civil war. A very sad story, but do you thnk Bushco has learned anything? Nope.

Meditations for empowerment. We were strong and that strength is still there, but it has to be guarded.

Don't think I will write Henry today, good thing Sambo's doing it, tho.
