Is the Christian understanding of messianic identity and purpose essentially the same as the understanding among folks living in Judea in 38 BC? In Israel and Judah before and around the time of Christ, they expected a divine warrior, descending from heaven to open up a can of angelic army whupass on the enemies of God. Listening to most of the assertions of dispensationalism about the Second Coming, I have to agree with Ambassador Ayalon...there's pretty much no difference. Pre-trib, post-trib, whatever...most Christians seem to have the same essential cosmology as the pre-Jesus Judeans.
