why i'm marching on october 5

On Thursday, October 5, 2006, a group organizing under the phrase, World Can't Wait is sponsoring a mass assembly.
From their website:
http://www.worldcantwait.net
"On October 5, people everywhere will walk out of school, take off work, and come to the downtowns & townsquares and set out from there, going through the streets and calling on many more to join us - making a powerful statement: "NO! THIS REGIME DOES NOT REPRESENT US! AND WE WILL DRIVE IT OUT!"
I will be marching on that day, with thousands of others, and I wanted to share with you my reasons for doing so. For me, it's about one thing: Belief.
What do we believe in? What do you believe in? I’m going to tell you what I believe in.
I believe in freedom. I believe in truth. I believe – believe it or not – in justice. I believe that for every one person gathering on October 5, there will be thousands at home, who’ve been waiting for this to start.
So I’m telling you now, telling this to each of you who’ve been waiting for this to start. Come down from your neighborhoods. Come in from the never-ending rains. Stand up from your panicked nightmares. Prepare to tell the world what America is about. Don’t let these fools represent you. Don’t let these fools try to fool the world into believing that America is about hatred and greed and ignorance and fear. Because America is not about these things. America is about justice. America is about freedom. America is about compassion. America is about opportunity. And I believe in our compassion, and I believe in this opportunity. And I believe in America.
Even the things that Bush does that you might happen to agree with, that’s not because he has some element of decency that falls in line with yours – it’s because his selfish and secret interests happen, at that point in time, for that particular issue, to fall in place with that thing that you wholeheartedly and with all the parts of your soul believe in. it’s simply a matter of odds. He lies about his own religion – and you think he won’t lie to you? The millions of simple, ordinary, hard-working people? You’re the have-nots. Or at least the barely haves. You’re not the have-mores. You’re not his base. You’re simply cattle. You, with your beliefs. Your experience. Your skills. The things that drive you, the things which move you, the things you’ve spent your life reaching conclusions about and reaching nirvana about. Those things you’ve read, and studied, and discussed with your parents and your brothers and sisters, the friends who stand beside you, your children, your lovers, your barmates, your teammates, your teachers and students, your colleagues and soulmates.
Dont let your life experience be snuffed out by a man like George W. Bush.
Dont let your search for meaning be snuffed out by a man like George W. Bush.
I'm not going to make a list of his offenses. I'm not going to argue about the details of policy. There are thousands of resources available to those who want a rundown of current policies and decisions. This isnt about the thousands of resources, thousands of lists, that are available, of what the Bush administration has done or not done.
This is about the thousands of resources that are not available, to tell us what the Bush administration has done and not done.
This is about basic human freedoms, basic human rights, about the survival of these freedoms and rights, and about the survival of the leading nation in the world in support of basic human rights and freedoms. We are more vulnerable now than we have ever been in our history.
Bush has not only made bad decisions, he has made criminal decisions. He has abused the Constitution he was sworn to uphold and, in turn, abused all of America. He has lied to the people who elected him to office. He has not served America. He has served himself and his own interests, be they personal, economic, philosophical, strategic, immoral. Each of his decisions, the crimes and the misdemeanors, have been made to serve one thing: himself. And the same goes for his entire administration.
Dont feel disheartened or pessimistic when someone tells you you're assembling on October 5 for nothing. That the American people are incapable of fighting this government.
Because the American government doesnt exist for itself. It exists for you, and for those who feel disheartened or pessimistic about our future. It exists to uphold the standards of freedom and justice upon which it laid its foundation. And if you believe that the American government no longer upholds its own standards of freedom and justice, you have a responsibility to the rest of the world to change it. To demand change.
To demand the removal of the Bush administration.
To assemble on October 5 and stand up for what you believe in. Because it's slipping away. So, act while we still have time.
I hope to see you there. Check out the World Can't Wait site, look for an assembly in your area. Bring as many friends as you can. And bring with you the pride that you grew up with, the pride in knowing that you live in a free society. And the pride that you're not going to let our free society be taken away by a man like George W. Bush.
