Washington, D.C.
In a shocking develepment, this weekend a wave of forced resignation has issued from the Executive branch. The Vice-President Richard Cheney, Attorney Genereal Alberto Gonzalez, and White House Advisor Karl Rove each anounced their intention to resign at the end of the spring and no later than July 1. The news comes as a surprise to most political observers who noted the President's staunch support for his long-time colleagues and allies.
"At the end of the day, it was the scandals that did them in," explained a source close to the Vice-President. "Dick's [Cheney] health, too, is deteriorating and the stress is just too much." Another source indicated he believes that Gonzalez and Rove stepped down in an effort to preempt a pending plan to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate whether formal charges may be brought against them for obstruction of justice.
