garbed in red
spirit of sin and forgiveness
drank in
contemplation, the spoils

waging sense and understanding
the almost but not quite
getting it
then losing the thread
and having to start
restart
once more
once and again and again and again
till finger on the trigger
misfires
war's hell anyway
make love forget the saber rattling
let the thousand years of peace begin
plow this share

satisfied
stamp of approval

and no one had to die.
