fire is valiant, cold is cowardly
when the petals of the cosmos open
cold is glad
in glory they move away from each other
expand into the flower of universe
then they color at the edges
begin to wilt from whiteness and distance

No seasons in the Big Bud theory
the cooling of the soul is slower than nuclear decay
we burn our fires in private places
still space is expanding colder, colder
and we worry about global warming
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Cold is gunmetal blue ice
inching down a slab of aching granite,
its light confined to crystalline ricochet
through the black Zen breathless
and gray shards of the sun.
And yes, never use "shards" in poetry.

Warm is calypso aqua
and wafting Jamaican herb,
and the island tilting once more
toward all things golden.

at zero degrees Kelvin
all molecular motion stops
even the electrons freeze in their orbits
cold as entropy

-273.15 degrees Celsius
459.67 below in Fahrenheit
but it's all relative to white silence
to cold to indifference
at absolute zero
glacier racing is a spectator sport
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Now that's cold-- cold enough to stop electrons!
Even the numbers look cold, -460, in fact digits
themselves are dead cold, digital is cold.

Even if the final destination of cosmos is absolute zero,
I bet the photons could still get through.
I wonder what colors absolute zero would be?
Or would it be colorless?

Of course there are some who say the universe
is elastic and will stop running away from itself,
you know, come together again, reee-cycle..
and that's bound to generate some heat.

i found a cold spot
on a warm heart,
discovered accidentally
through a troubled
word mishap,

chances
being treated like an
emergency aorta probe,
the whole of each chamber
in danger of explosion,
so she shut down quick,

iced over the soft spot,
began reciting a slippery
mantra, undaunted by
any possibility of a thaw.

"leave me alone.
leave me alone,"
she said.

and pretty soon, even after
spring caused new tunes to
emerge, new blooms to become,
even after the hummingbird

flitted a thousand times a second,
wings beating a hover, his long
bill determined to enjoy
the sweet brief treat...

pretty soon.....

they did.

cold hearts breed
such dire
certainties.

even spring
cannot resurrect
them.

fool is the hummingbird dips his nose into winter
it will splinter into ice like a sickle
and won't cause a ripple in the cold
but spring is already laying plans
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

i blessed the
festivities with
the best source
of light i could
find,

the kind
that comes from
mind sparks and
crimson illuminations
of dark interiors –

the style of which
i never expected,
like a heartbeam
reflected from
the genesis of
doubt.

it is from such
a place where i
have figured out
the meaning of
light.... a definition
i cannot quite
state –

not because it
is too late and not
because there is
no articulation –

only because of
the relation between
me and the light itself,
the both of us
inseparable.

the hummingbird
is not a fool.
his bill is long and
probes deep, a tool
to find a succulent
nectar.

even the ice
is not foolish,
though it keeps him
from his treasure,
forces migration
until icicles drip.

it is we who are fools.
we who cannot understand
the plan, we who curse the
absence of warmth, we who
do not have the fortitude
to wait through the cycle.

patience, brother, patience.
even dreams are cyclical.
soon we will sweep, circular,
to the top of the arc!

oh for joy
(i wondered)
will there be a winter solstice jam?
today as i went about my appointed rounds
found a little time to share hopes

how about the loss of hope?

don wanna share that

always wanted a way back
from distant passing indifference
and the absence of tenderness
just me an my dog
walking in winter
alienated and alone

now i have flames coming out of my brains
and they will not die
waxing and waning away

a damn foundry was never hotter

let's watch arctic explorations
let's cheer on the huskies
the dog sleds while trying to cover ground
let's think of caribou and musk ox
while why not?
why not jump into a hole in the ice
and swim under icebergs?
it's what winter's all about
freezing, frostbite and then, oh, and then
melting into a warm pot of jam

happy holy days
the family tree
at home by the fire
listened to a flute an poet
jam lonliness
with such beauty
it made me know
the heart is open
raw icicles dripping
a hearth be upon ye!
scorch th tears away
and sighs of sorrow
give way unto
gladness
of being
chilled and
beat
but not out
jus down for th count
til th next round
of cheers
in the dark time

mush mush
I say
husky hearted friends
share
hope found
hope lost
the darkness retreats
the days grow longer as
winter begins
the nights grow shorter
unless you are standing on your head in Argentina
where the days grow shorter

photons electrons and croutons
lettuce and tomaters
olive oil and vinegar

all over the house not even a mouse
in sugar coated candy cane dreams of children

we tell such sweet lies to the children
what has Christ got to do with it?

Dip your bill little humming bird
dip away
into egg nogg and cheer

lovers come and go
hearts grow warmer then weary
baby it is cold outside
even the aligators are buttoned up

the days inperceptibaly longer
I am going south
to the flip side
where the summer solstice is happening

So now we know
Jesus was born in June
Xmas in december is a marketing ploy
did somebody light a another candle it feels warmer here.

Oh well, I got to go but my friend can stick around

less than a month to Obamarama begins
and this darkness will pass
and we will be one nation under a groove
that lucky old sun got it made
got it made in winter
keeping bankers hours..

with a little luck
and a few friends
I will make through
I am on a mission too

eight days a week till 2009
so much to look forward to.
my heart is full

pagan saints sigh at what could transpire here on winter solstice
an th hunger tymes
meant to preserve th stocks for th long winter
fasting as it were
on sweet scent and absinthe perfume

keep on breathin in th free world
th cycle's complete a creative destruction
marketing's philosophic ploy
at play
in th universe
i guess
on this cursed planet at best
yes
cosmic winter solstice
celebrated by astrologer priest shamans of long ago
and why and how did they know
th slab stones would line up with th sun
an project a glow into th chamber below
th sacrificial table above
where th astrologers lay eyeing th skies
for evidence of a plan
in thier garden forests
and streams
white with snow and long fires

I will pick up one for you as well

Merry Christmas in December if that's your thing

I am just in it for the candle light

everything seems warmer by candle light
I run but can't hide
but what the hey
I need the exercise.

Drinkit smokeit if you got it
God bless our wounded warriors

Sincerely
God's Own Fool
