I still think I started it Mnaz, I brought up the subject of the Christmas Truce. But I sure do not want to argue about it. 1968 was a tough year, but there was one bright spot for me. To see it realy is one world, there are no borders as seen from space. It is all holy land.
The first time I felt anything like a Christmas truce was in 1968.
Earth as seen from Apollo 8 on one of its Christmas Eve orbits of the moon in 1968.
I got no myths to remember about Christmas. I was a fortunate child.
Surrounded by loving adults, who never told me about hell, or damnation.
Except for Crazy Mike who told me it was all right here, right now, heaven or hell.
No sparrows yet
They are all still sleeping here
Dreaming of sugar plums no doubt

4:00 AM Christmas Morning
I've been waiting all night
it's a habit since childhood
I've resigned myself by now
he's not showing up again
the first clue was the department store
when Santa had an elastic band around his beard
but I stayed up anyway
to see perchance the cookies we had left
eaten by the jolly old elf
my lids would droop and I would nod
slap myself awake, 'did I miss him?'
check the cookies
look up the chimney
I've been doing this for sixty years
haven't seen him yet
but I'm still looking, still waiting

sparrows are also insistently singing here
under a white almost absolute
10:30 summer sky
the myth ... I don´t know...
I remember I enjoyed the pesebre, the tree & the songs
when I was a kid
(I still do)
but I remember I was always afraid
of Papa Noel & the Magi Kings
(strangers coming in the night
in odd costumes, it seems I couldn´t deal with that )
so it was a relief to knew
that the gifts really came from my family!!
the gifts I recived this year:
a Dali calendar
a little mirror
a towel and a soap
a big-eyed-frog porta-notes
a beautiful white, multi-colored-flowery blouse
a shoking-corn-colored bolso with bordados from India
a silver brazalet with greek design from Mexico
(now I change the sparrows for the l-rod tune! so exquisite!!!!!!!! my second favorite one!!!!!!)

ten thirty under a white winter sky
When I was a kid
I was enthralled with the elaborate Christmas displays in the windows of the big department stores downtown
I loved the electric trains chugging through a the minature city
My brother and I were saving up to get our own set of electric trains
We had about ten bucks saved when he spent it on a date with a girl.
I was very angry.
Not so much because of him spending the money
But how he had spent it with nothing to show for it
I felt he had wasted it on a date with a girl.
I could not imagine what he was thinking
I was about ten at the time.
Birds tweet but I don't know what they are.
Still and quiet
no traffic
feels like a sunday morning.
I forgot to thank l-rod for the tune

well there's definately two aspects to christmas, or christ mass
santy claus and the immaculate natural childbirth
when they killed all the newborn males in bethlehem, now in the west bank
and the seasons go round and round
and we kill and are killed
and nobody wants to take the first step towards peace
hillary gonna stop the qassams if nobody can
i do believe the impasse will thaw
some day
santy claus is secular
really
there is the season of gift giving
this is in many cultures i yam sure
i do know that the three branches of the judeo-christian-islamic family tree
all give gifts this time of year
i do believe
you can make it fake or you can make it real
it's within you
winter solstice and summer solstice
both just happenned on the same day
an i believe in th power of stars and tides
to inspire and sustain
believe what you will or won't
just don't give up hope
hallelu
jah

I believe in the
it is all about life being born, a strange holiday to celebrate the hope in a new born child in the dead of winter.
but as LR wrote
stephen colbert lyrics
Can I interest you in Hannukah?

Speaking of cultural anthropolgoy
Did I tell you I made junior standind after twelve years as a sophmore.
I finally picked a major, Anthropology.
Not sure what happened to him I have not seen him in a while but traveller13 I think was his handle. He wrote some interesting stuff about some of the cultures he has lived in among indigenous people. Good writer.
There are some really screwed up cultures out there in the world. . Somewhere in South East Asia, he described a really destructive society.
I have heard that the earth could support a population of fifty or sixty billion people but not like this.
We got change no doubt.
I hope Hillary does stop the rockets red glare in Israel.
But who will stop the murder in Darfur
or clean up the shit in Zimbabwe ,stop the cholera. Stop the the wars in the Congo and miriad other places where bloodshed and disease rage for no reason at all..
The messiah?
I don't know.
I don't know why one small country should matter so much in the world's affairs. Why one small group of people should matter so much, be hated so much.
Does it have anything to do with us killing Santa Claus?
But that is neither there nor here or anywhere
but my mind wanders.
Here in Texas I had a good Christmas dinner with family and friends., love peace and taco grease to all you Floritians
jt
thanks.

I am thinking about it as a metaphor
sure makes sense in the dead of winter the savior is born,
the light of the world is born.
Don't mind me
some of my best friends, dearest friends are Catholic, I don't have conversations with them about when Jesus was born. I just let is slide, cause it does not matter.
What matters to me is that a Christ consciousness was born within me. Not much on theology. My faith is heretical. Everybody and their brother was getting saved in the seventies. Me too, I joined a Quaker meeting. If not for Nietzsche and acid I would have probably wound up a Jesus freak.
Merry Christmas
