It's 2006! Let try something new. YOU name it!

Post by Doreen Peri » January 13th, 2006, 1:28 pm

Hi all. We've been doing regularly scheduled Word Jams and an occasional Image-ination Jam for a year now. It's been fun and inspiring!

But now it's a brand new year... maybe we should do something different.

Wouldn't it be cool if YOU all decided what you wanted to do here at the Studio and when you wanted to do it?

Some time recently, Artguy posted an idea about having a Haiku Jam. We haven't done that yet and I think it's a great idea!

e-dog also had another idea about a different type of Jam, if I remember correctly, but I don't remember exactly what it was. You out there e? Lay it on us again, ok?

What do you think about this idea? I renamed the forum - "What's Happenin! YOU Name it!"

You can come in here and post your ideas about doing something together online... a certain type of Jam which you think might be cool to do, an Image sharing event, a spontaneous ad lib improv play, a writing challenges event, a digital art collaboration meaning you edit my photo or art and I edit yours and we post them, or poems or stories for a collaborative chapbook, or a spontaneous story jam OR??? What ideas do you have?

What do YOU want to do! You Name it! Pick an idea, throw it out and see if everybody wants to join in. Pick a date and time and let's do it!

What do you think?

you could do a collaborative novel. have an idea, start it with a short intro and then have people submit and vote on next chapters. when a next chapter is selected, move on to the next one.
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.

cool idea, firsty!!...

Or maybe collaborative short stories.. duets.. (another idea along the same lines)...people pairing off together to plan an outline and characters, then coming here to write it spontaneously...

or??? could you describe what you mean about voting on the next chapters? How could we do this with this software? hmmm...

OK.. so, story or novel.. trying to think .. how could we work it?

love the idea... just trying to think of the logistics of it.... how to set it up.

please share your ideas about exactly how your idea would work and we'll do it! Wanna help set it up?

Would you like your own Studio forum for that, Artguy? :P

set it up? woah. ha ha. well, i kinda stole the idea from this thing my friend has for online collaboration of screenplays. it's pretty intensive, but i dont think we'd need to be real intense about it.

you'd have to have a mediator or 2 or 3 or something, a small team, who collects votes and decides on next chapters. so that trolls dont invade, you know.. anyway, you start with a chapter, then a bunch of people write another chapter, and there is a period of about a week where anyone can cast a vote for the chapter theyd like to see, and then the team would determine who wins, breaking ties and whatnot. then that chapter is posted and the process repeats itself.

probably the best way to do it would be to set up a web form or email form that voters would send back to the team with its votes cast.
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.
