Feedback re: the first Image-ination Word Jam

What's the best way to run the Image-ination Jams?

Should the Image-ination Jams be events which last a slated amount of time like 24-48 hours?

Should the Image-ination Jams be an open forum, not an event, which is always available to use, with no topics ever being locked?

Let's do both. Let's keep the forum open for continued participation whenever people want but let's also meet there occasionally at a specific day and time for a Jam.

Seems like having the scheduled event is what most want so far and I agree.

I unlocked the threads so people could keep on replying but nobody has so, it looks as though it was what it was when it was and what it was was pretty darn cool!

I'll lock the threads back up tonight and it will then be archived.

Next one, maybe we could do it for 48 hours instead of 24. Just an idea. That will give people more time to view the posts and reply.

SooZ... you didn't post too many! Post as many as you want! I enjoyed each and every one of your images and you and Cecil inspired a snake poem I wrote. I was becoming the paintings. ;) Sorry weekends aren't good for you. Maybe if we do it for 48 hours, we'll start on a Thursday or something.

Thank all you ImaJammers again for your participation and feedback! ;)

48 hour jam is a good solution. Since we've got a lot of factors involved in the jam, including people who might get the inspiration to suddenly paint, photograph and upload something (and those like L-rod who suddenly compose and record something), then more time is good.

Starting on Thursday is also interesting. As we saw this time, people posted images and the image continues to remain fresh. There's always something to catch the eye, and the poems that follow also beckon response. It's a good mix.

Going back to words will no doubt show that we've all gained something from broadening the experience.

Tom and Jenni had a great time! Here's a picture of us with our jam axes - could yall hear me playing the accordion?

I like the jam as a special event. It enhances the sense of celebration and community. I voted for "both," though, because I like the chance to practice this new kind of artistic response. Not easy!

All the best, J & T

I really had fun. It was my first time to jam online. I like the idea of going for 48 hours. Thanks to all!

what the heck is the point of locking them? this brings up two questions...

can we have a warning that the lock is impending so that we don't bother to post new topics which no one will be allowed to respond to?

what if an image still inspires me? where do i put that inspiration? should i copy the image, save it to my hard drive, repost it online, and then post another link to it in some other room like Creative Writing or Go! and THEN respond to it?

i mean, what's the protocol on inspiration spill-over?

Jenni & Tom - What an attractive couple you are! Thank you for joining us! :)

tizzie - Sounds like a cool idea.... let's talk more about this... I like it! :)

GloriousOne - That's the point of this thread.... to find out if everybody wants an event which is set for a certain time period or if they'd rather have a forum open all the time to Word Jam using an image as inspiration. Sounds like you would want it open all the time without ever locking them. So, could you please vote in the poll if you haven't already?

The point of locking them was to have an event which is archived. An archived, closed for future posting Jam. A document of 2 days. There was a warning given as to when the Jam would take place in the dates and times announced for it - 3PM EST Friday until 3PM EST Saturday. Those are specific times.

Plus, with every Jam, we post a thank you during the last five minutes of the Jam, letting everybody know it's about to close up. This particular time, I posted the thank you, then waited about 15 minutes, then locked them up. Later, I reopened it because I didn't think there was enough Word Jamming to some of the threads and so, I extended it until midnight last night and that was announced, too. Then, I forgot to close it down and lock them up and went to sleep and judih locked them... not sure what time that was.

At any rate, that's why we were labeling the posts "Jam #1", so it would be archived as an event for reading and viewing later. If you'd rather it be not an event, vote for an open forum. If you think it would be a good idea to do both, vote for both.

If we left it open all the time, do you think that would take away from the dynamic of the event .... a lot of people online at the same time experiencing the Jam together? Would that make it more like the internet is all the time anyway? Some have posted to this thread that they think it would lose the dynamic if it was open all the time.

As judih said, here's another idea.... We could use the GO! forum or the Visual Arts forum for jamming off of images. That's a possibility I didn't put in the poll, but I could add it, if anybody wants me to.

And yeah, if the image still inspires you after you post, you can always repost the image. There would be no reason for you to download it to your hard drive and repost it online. IT's already online. It already has a link. Just click on the image and in IE (I don't know what wording the other browsers have" but in IE, it says, "Open image in new window." Then once the image is in a new window, there's a URL for it. Then you could post the image again and write, "originally posted by artist's name in the Imagine-ation Jam #1" and give credit to the creator of the image, and Jam on!!

Make sense?

Thanks for your input. It was good to see you at the Jam! Vote, ok? (if you haven't already.) :)

Let's keep talking about these ideas.
