Off to read poetry with Wireman!

Post by Doreen Peri » February 8th, 2011, 6:46 pm

I'm off to read poetry in Frederick, Maryland shortly with Wireman. Wireman has assembled his musician friends and several other poets and we'll be reading at Nola Cafe. Pretty cool, huh? Neologistic (James) is here visiting and he's going to be reading, too.... It'll be a blast!

Thanks, Wireman, for putting this gig together.... See you in a couple of hours!
:D

Fantastic time. Great people, fabulous words, and Will the real deal Plaeground made sounds come down from Holy Fields. Loved it.

Thanks for setting it up, Mark!

It was definitely invigorating!

Cool spot, great readings & performances by all... Wish we had photos. James took a some but the lighting in there was pretty dark.

Here's where we were...

Mark Wireman's performances get better and better every time I see him!
(and what a doll for putting this thing together so quick)

Will, the Plaeground keyboardist played some cool soundscapes to back everybody up.

Singer songwriter, Goodloe, played the guitar and sang... terrific!

James' readings were passionate and one of his pieces just blew me away... the sounds of the words and the images twisting around... my jaw dropped.. He's a natural!

3-4 other poets read and all of them had super good material.

We had a blast!

Wish you were there!

thanks, dori, for the write-up
you neglected to mention what you read and how people were eager for more

mark's in his element - i read his enthusiasm everytime he mentions the cafe and every reading he's ever hosted or been a part of (and it's been a long time)

& great to hear about james' spoken word power

hope new connections bring the scene to virginia.

Oh, man, that was liberating and wonderful, Doreen really moved the place "oh, yeah!"

Loved it, Wireman had the fire and Doreen had the electricity, it was wild for sure

Great place, let's do it again huh

It's really my element, too. I felt right at home. I always do every time I get up there. (though it had been 3 years! omg!) Unfortunately there are no poetry events near me... which is one part of my dream to make them happen connected to a Studio8 Live brick & mortar venue or a traveling troupe or something. There is a venue not that far from me so I should start getting out more to read & perform but it's hard to do mid-week as a single mom.

I read an Intro piece I had written and read to introduce one of the Cabardio shows long time ago where I had audience participation asking them to say "Oh yeah!" in response to lines like "aren't you glad you're here instead of sitting in the dental chair?" .. haha. I read "The Birth of the Poem", a piece I've read many times. I also did "Deathrap" which I felt went over like a lead balloon but hey, I'm a self critic... after every performance, I overly analyze and self criticize. Who knows? I'm blinded by the spot lights. *smile*. ... I also did my "Fame and Beauty" piece plus a short half-a-minute humor piece called "Cheater" where I cheat on myself, break up with myself and kick myself out! That got a laugh. Short is better maybe. A couple more, I don't remember... but, as often I do, I recited Vachel Lindsey's Part #1 of "The Congo", a poem I memorized many years ago asking the accompanist for jungle rhythms. It was fun!. We did them in sets of 3 at a time (great idea from Mark), to keep it varied. I like changing it up, also!

..........

James... thanks for the kind accolades! It was great to have you there! You're a dynamic writer and reader! :)
