“Cupidity” is:Last summer, the idea for an exhibit came to me after reading the “You Caught My Eye” personal ads in the Washington Post. With their attention to time, place, props, dialogue and even blocking, I began to see each of these ads as scenes from many different films. I was so attracted to this perception that I immediately visualized an exhibit filled with art inspired by these romantic attempts to reconnect with passing strangers.
The idea continued to include yet another component. What if a writer could then compose a second ad, written as though they had a personal encounter with a stranger near one of these newly created artworks? The art itself would then in fact become an actual prop that could be described in the second ad. Hmmmmm……………
“Cupidity” features 34 regional artists and writers, who all decided to help make this concept a reality. We are pleased to present such a creative exhibit to our collectors and the new visitors who will make their way into Bethesda for this unique valentine.
