The spam bots are winning.

It's making me crazy. Can't delete them faster than they're registering.

Thank you so much, Judih and LR, for your help zapping them!

We are getting 100+ per day which requires us to live here in order to delete them.

Well, I didn't do anything except shut the site down for approx 6 hours last night while I slept and today the bots registering have only been maybe 15? Guessing. Wayyyyyy less than the past few days. Hmmm... I donno. Maybe shutting it down for a while turned them off. lol

Yesterday, I banned names (over and over and it didn't work, the names did not appear in the list)... IP#s (same thing.. that's not working either for some reason.. I add them to the list but then they don't appear on the banned list) and wildcard email addresses. I doubt if the email addresses helped but maybe it did. I donno.

All I can say is that 15 bots a day is a manageable amount to delete until I can figure out how to solve the problem and I have several good leads of ideas from the phpbb help forums which we'll explore as soon as we have some time.

If the bots start hitting again really hard? I'll shut it down again if we can't keep up with zapping them and eventually get this fixed.

They seem to be coming back again... ugh.

I'll get to trying to make a couple of the suggestions in the phpbb thread as soon as I can.

Seems to me shutting it down for a few hours the other night had a good impact, too. I'm going to do that again also.

In the meantime, I know this is a pain in the rear end and I am grateful for your assistance.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all wil be resolved soon. I have faith in you Doreen, and you as well Judith.
