tonight
i slept with Christopher Marlowe
under flickering faery light
my lids fell heavily, shut as tho charmed
my wrist fell limply, weaker than the arm
my book fell shut, heavily to bed
and dreams of Mephistophilis
formed inside my head
i saw a scarecrowesque pale clown
fall into his master's will
and the good and evil angels
pushed and pulled me on the hillside
my conscience and my ego
are Sysyphus and stone
do i join the Syndicate
or branch out on my own?
and i am Dr. Faustus
trying to forge my path
guided by the symbols i see
i'm blind to the linear mathology
of right and left theology
i'm tipping over apple carts
i'm carving one in two
the inside of the apple

and form of Truth.
