Jim could you post Broken Road again. You know I know nothing about art but that picture moved me. Maybe it was the back story of where you were at the time. My uncle Abe, the one with the "H" on his dog tag came home from the Pacific after world war two. He is probably my male role model, the truck driver. He only had one piece of art in his house. A Japenese painting of a bridge, a stream, and a woman. Maybe it reminded me of that. I am not sure if the picture is good art but I love that picture. It chills me. A gonzo kind of Zen feeling.

I would like the resolution to be 300 dpi but these are large enough and at high enough resolution for me to scale down in dimensions and up in dpi so they're fine as they are.

I'm not sure about the dimensions of the book. They have several available. You don't need to worry about that. I will size the artwork selected for the book properly to fit attractively on the page when I do the layout.

Also, if you have a poem which could be a companion piece to any of these art pieces, please send and indicate which pieces go together.

I donno if I'm writing that clearly or not.

What I mean to say is we'd love to have poetry submissions, too, and since this is a book which will feature both poetry and artwork, sometimes the poems will be illustrations of the artwork and visa versa. (That doesn't mean don't submit poetry that isn't intended to be a companion to these pieces... of course, you can do that, too!) ... whew... does that make sense? lol

No need to email them, jimbo... I just downloaded them and set the dpi to 300... should be fine. Thank you for your submissions!

No, it increased the resolution.... increased them in size. (not dimensions, but size of the file... which is what we want).

If you wanted to scan them again at 300dpi, that would be OK since going from a low resolution to a high resolution isn't the best thing to do but I think they look OK.

300dpi is standard for print. It assures they will print crisp and clear. Your monitor doesn't see any more than 72dpi so that's why we save them at 72dpi for the web. But 300dpi is what we need for print.

Jim... as you can see with "open road", what happened when you increased the resolution and saved it at 300dpi is it became pixelated. It's really tough to go from a low resolution to a high resolution and keep the quality. For the most part, it doesn't work.

I can sometimes work with files which have a larger dimension, save them to a higher resolution, then make the dimensions smaller and it works OK. But this file is only 1.5" x 1.5" (approx) and will be too small for printing in the book.

Anyway, I was able to work with the other files you posted, but this one won't work. If you want to submit "open road," do you have the original piece? If so, scan it at 300dpi and email it to me. When you push scan, you should see a window with scanner settings on your screen. Thank you!

I hope "open road" can be gotten, it is a very nice piece...good luck on it! also, if you don't have a scanner, they are at places like Kinko's and like copier places.

I run into the word "trippy" today while reading The Denial of Death.

Trippy pictures for me. I think that is a cactus not a hitchiker.

For a time I was sitting here staring out the big windshield of a semi.

It was Wyoming on a sleeting dark winter day. Some people ain't human. I had to pick him up. I think I got an interesting story for that picture. No idea what the deadline is here but I will post it mabybe. You know how weak I am on my 8's;
