why does clay have the final say on the name? is it going to be his show or the one of s8? just curious...

i see his point about radi8 not translating into audio, though. the connotations would be lost. he's right about that.

still i think it's a great name, and i love how radiating and radio eight combine in it. and it definitnely would make for a great logo!

so, why not call the show "radio eight" (clear and simple), and still write it "radi8"?

clear in both ways.... and sounds good & looks good!

panta,

Very good question.

He's helping by working with Ray to order the material in the show. As a result of his involvement there were 3-way emails for the past few weeks and frankly his repeated complaining about the name, stating how he hated it was driving me crazy. So, i threw up my hands and said, "name it whatever you want."

The "radiate" pronunciation and the visual logo were never meant to be cutsie or gimmicky ... only clever, catchy, and memorable. I like the sound of RADIATE ... I don't think it's either "girlie" or "gimmicky", Clay's complaints.

I guess I just had one of those moments where I knew that if I didn't give up, I would become a statistic.

I think that's a very good idea. Thank you for this idea.

the name (radio 8 ) would likewise be clear through audio and visual (the word 'radio' in "radi8" is very distinct, because the 8 is sort of a waisted o), and there'd be the additional connotation of 'radiate' for those who look at the visual.

and if you say it a bit slurry and blend the middle vowels, it almost sounds the same - "radioeight", "radiate"... you could also play with that similarity and say something like "this is radio eight - ready to radiate!"....

clay, you're right about the difficulties of 'radio8' translating into audio - but you're not right about it being gimmicky or girly, and surely not about it failing to be a great visual!

it's not girlish. it's word play, or even word art.

Why not just settle for "The Clay January Radio Show & Friends" ?

Sheez... sometimes I shouldn't read certain threads...

The Clay January Radio Show & Friends
That works for me.
I am sure Clay and Doreen will work out their differences. I just want to listen. I love radio. I listen more to radio than I watch television. I grew with radio. I think my pre war generation was the last one not raised on television.

I can still remember the voices. Some I wish I could forget.

There is no problem here.... this has just been a brainstorming session to come up with the best name. As with any brainstorming session, many ideas will emerge and it usually comes down to choosing between two and then a decision is made. That's what happened here. A decision has been made. And it's a fine decision.

(and Cecil, I like the "Lightning Rod and Friends" idea too!... just for the record. That's a good title!)

"Problems can be a problem" - truck

I agree with truck... problems can become problematic and when they become problematic they become less than the answer they set out to find. let's not have problems become more than the reason for choice.

;)
