Are you inspired by winter? being up north.
when you are painting, are you pulled into the paintings.?

White in this series is not connected to snow as much as it is a statement of non colour or uncolour.....simple form....sculpted painterly nuance.....although I am very much a person of the north....much further north than I reside now....the tundra and artic mystique pulls me....and yes so does the act of painting....

i don't like to admit to favouritism - but i do like the white rothko
white and grounded parallels and i like it best!
i also love the repeated symbols in your work, kurt.
They link your expressions but appear only when necessary.

I like the texture, the impasto. Although white appears void of color, we know it encompasses all colors. Nice stuff Kurt, I could get lost (happily) in there.

north where white predominates
and greys yet
tundra has mosses and lichens of all kind
greens and yellows and browns and
little flowers reds and yellows
and
yes distance
knowing the fragile warmth of the sun
knowing the globe is finite
and space is not
and only simple forms
serve the eye
a majesty of warmmmm cool.
ice flows and
glacers too
and scree slopes to slide down
with good hiking boots
slamming down a scree slope
nothing quite like it
giant sliding steps
yet embedded into the scree
you cover a lot of slope.
and at the bottom,
a little stream of glacial melt
and muddy delta dirt.
