got cancer that winter
breast not there
then the chemo
lost my hair
next radiation
sunburned square
5 years no cancer
I do declare
keep your head up and spit that old C in the eye

with cancer
it helps to be a prancer
to trod upon its abnormality
and it helps to be a dancer
to spin in circles of resistance
the journey means
many challenges will stare you in the eye
but you are the romancer
and can extract gems of tolerance

windows that close
and the doors that open
made me stronger
as I got weaker
the light at the end of the tunnel
warms my heart
and I turn my face
to the sun
