Spent the afternoon lakeside with my sibs, sibs-in-law, and our mom. It was only about 65% total, but cool enough, watching the moon slide past the sun. The light had the same quality as shining through a thin, high overcast. I didn't notice any unusual behavior among the birds or squirrels, nor did I see any of the diffraction effects I'd been told to look for. Having seen one full total eclipse (in 1970), I can attest that the difference between 99% and 100% is nearly as great as that between 65% and 100%!

I wasn't able to see the total eclipse either. I was close enough to drive to see it but I didn't think to arrange to have off from work that day. I'm not sure what the percentage was where I was. It was enough though to cast an unusual light on things. Come hell or high water I am going to be where totality is in 2024. :)
