I discovered from a hiking app I use (MapMyRun.com) a new trail I hadn't known of in the WMA I've tramped all these years. It offered views of the MIllers River I'd never seen before, from places I've never before stood:

This is along a trail I'm already familiar with. I love the way the light softens in here when the sun slips behind a cloud - the woods become quieter somehow, more finite, less imposing, more intimate. It's a little like walking from outdoors into a room on the shaded side of the house, without turning on the lights...

This is a before-after I've toyed with before. BEFORE: what the camera gave me. (Some of the edges are a little sharper because I reduced the image to about 10% its original size for uploading, artificially sharpening it.)

AFTER: what I'd seen. I reduced gamma to about 60% of what the camera gave me, & cropped out as much of the sandbank as I could without taking too much of the clumps; and keeping the approximate aspect ratio. This was also shrunk for uploading, but the false sharpening wasn't as bad because I'd already cropped out much of the original.

Not a great shot, but at least it doesn't give me that "what on earth did I take this for?" vibe, like so many of them do.

This was also cropped down from a much wider-view image I took, because I wanted to defer framing it for later - I was being harassed by a deer fly, & just wanted to move on. (BTW, scored 4 kills that day, my 1st of the season.)

IrfanView's Autocorredt can often rescue a "muddy" picture, but I didn't like what it did with the colors, so I enhanced the contrast a bit, tweaked gamma a bit, & got this.

Because I don't have nearly enough pictures of roadside vegetation.
