Day Lily
Birch Hill WMA, Winchendon MA - Wetmore Rd trailhead. The unopened buds are edible, often with a sharp, peppery essence - but these were bland & insipid. I munched on a few, but they'd either gone by or were just an inferior variety. The wild blueberries & raspberries I found later were much tastier.

I had no idea what this was when I came across it. Some kind of plant pathology? An invasive species? Nope, just ordinary alder shoots. I thought I was looking at something exotic. Birch Hill WMA, New Boston Rd, Winchendon MA....

From one of my favoritest walks - just a mile or two from my front door. No retouching or enhancement - just a dead branch sticking out of slow-moving, foam-covered, tannin-rich water.

Biome
Final stretch of the Swamp Rd / West Rd / River Rd loop just downstream of the flood-control dam in South Royalston MA. Irfanview's Autocorrect usually does a fair job of brightening up an otherwise dull & muted shot, but this time it turned it into a gaudy, surrealistic parody of 1960s psychedelia... so I just cropped it a bit & manually nudged the contrast up a tad.

Millers River in F minor
The requisite Hallmark Calendar shot, a river view from the bridge right next to where I usually park. I played around with color balance, saturation, & contrast, but ultimately left it alone. I liked the soft, misty quality of the untouched version - like a Vaughan Williams pastorale.
