thinking of space..

Post by mnaz » March 27th, 2008, 4:52 am

space and warmth. been awhile since i came around here. been an awfully long winter... perhaps i complain too often, and that may say more about me than any phenomenon of weather. yet it snowed today, again, and i'm still waiting for constriction to ease. some breathing space. i hate to put it all on desert promise, but tonight these leftover photos inspired (and sustained).

That first one always gets me-- looking south into receding depths of Death Valley from the short-lived Chloride camp-- its remains (circa 1870, one of the first desert mining camps)-- more than a vertical mile over the valley floor, about as exposed to the elements as is possible, yet it was so calm that day (though I'm not fooled). I'm surprised I haven't posted the Chloride cliff photos. They inspired, and continue to do so. I was looking back through some of the threads on this board yesterday, and...
Arcadia... "easily flowing inner-outer spaces"... Yes!

looking at the thread of graded road, ubiquitous roads anywhere that explorers could go, at the edge of nowhere

the artists' road mercy where does it go?

vancouver shot seen on banner
lucky to be so near nature
urban blues

but i get to go to a spring training game today, yippie!

the bottom photo shows the minimalist wonder you get there
that's why it becomes so spiritual, minimalist aesthetic
very roomy makes the eyes grow the brain soothe
i'm on a survival mission
yo ho ho an a bottle of rum om

Breathtaking, inspiring or sustaining, yes, thank you mnaz. These remind me of seeing mountains for the first time, riding the bus from Ohio to CA, and not realizing at first that those things on the horizon weren't clouds...

gorgeous, again. i'm reminded of how i felt when driving on the canadian Prairies under an endless blue sky with a constant far horizon. i felt deep in my bones that it would be difficult to hide from myself in the vast expanses.
