When they let me leave early, I like to go to my cabin in the woods and just take it easy. I guess I should tidy up a bit though and I sure wish that family of skunk would find somewhere else to live.

The shack is the only thing still standing on this once thiving farm.

No I don't live in the shack but I do love to stop and look through it. I live just a few miles from it. Actually I live in a round house which is also quite interesting.


This ia an old pic taken about eight years old. I posted some shots of my sorrounding area above if you haven't seen them yet.

This house is owned by one of the local millionaires, he doesn't even live there, he has a bigger house in the city. It was built in the early 1800's and is full of history.
The estate is called Ditchely and is located close to the Chesapeake Bay.


The house has been restored but the barn is about to fall.


This ia our local convenience store/old country market/post office. It has also been around since the early 1800's.

this is a really gorgeous looking thing. I love the roof and the little line of windows: small, larger, door.

It's quite sad when really pretty buildings are left to fall and die. It's even sadder when they're replaced by horrific modern architecture: all glass and no soul.

I liked all these photos.

I think it has an awesome tragedy to it that makes it mesmerizing. It sort of pulls you in with it's somber rotting wood and it's anonymity in the center of all that great green grass. Thanks for posting it up. I'd love to see more shots of it anytime. e-mail them to me or post them here.

Good news, a fact that I may have left out. The barn will eventually be restored to it's origional condition but there is a severents house on the property that will probably be restored first. I'm sure after it's restoration it will look great but it will loose it's rustic beauty.

in retrospect... that is good news, but I guess it's whole appeal is the fact that it's rustic and gloomy. Oh well... can't have it all.

secluded unappreciated yet home
for seekers and solace
from the intensity

i never really appreciated them back then
the urban desolate spaces
but i walked them
felt the feelings along tracks
behind backs of fences
where weeds grew
on saturday afternoons

found the same empty urban spaces in shreveport
did sketches there
something began to happen

now later healed
st petersburg and tampa
still waking up
your initial photo reminds me of the solace
I sought while low and meek
