Nice. That's my kind of scene. Is this near Chiricahua National Monument, or Cochise's Stronghold? Are those mountains in the background in New Mexico?

Maybe this clip from google will help you -

"Texas Canyon is located in Cochise County, Arizona about 20 miles east of Benson on Interstate 10 and lies between the Little Dragoon Mountains on the north and the Dragoon Mountains to the south."

The Dragoon Mts I am not familiar with at all. Are you?

Ok I know where that is. Not far from Cochise's Stronghold (in the Dragoon Mountains). I never went there; they were the next mountain range west from Chiricahua National Monument-- which has a lot more of those funky "hoodoo" rock formations. Visited in '99... The high mountains in the background must be the Pinalenos...

Are you referring to the mts with snow on them in the far distance? They're the Pinalenos?

Cool that you know these mountains, Mark, and many others I gather. :)

Depends on which direction you were pointed. (I cheated by looking at the Arizona atlas-- the Pinalenos looked like the only mountains high enough in that area to fill the frame like that.) Love the light & shadow contrasts-- A great thing about shooting desert rock formations is the sharp, bold textures on rock that emerge from glow as the sun arcs east to west. Also, the light & dark accents on distant hills from mixed clouds and sun.
