I wanted to press on a little further, but the arthritis in my left hip said it was past the time to turn back. Oh well - "Trail Seduction: (n) the irresistible urge to see what lies around the next bend; and the one after that; and the one after that. Among older hikers, the leading cause of 'overdoing it' (q.v.)"

whoa - that's a REAL river! With islands & everything. Tully's just a spring rivulet by comparison. Closest we've got to that hereabouts I'd guess is the Connecticut.

the Susquehanna though very wide is typically shallow, but the area pictured is between 2 dams and is quite deep.....this area of the river is actually called Lake Aldred, named after Jon Aldred that completed the stalled project of creating a huge hydroelectric plant for southern Pa.....the project ran out of money during a stock market crash known as The Panic of 1907....Aldred came from Canada in 1909 and folks were drawing electrical current by 1910.....this area is popular with boaters that visit the many islands of sandy beaches....but you still need to be experienced, because their are rocky shallows that will rip off your propeller .....near Holtwood Dam in the middle of the river hanging from any abandoned tower of some kind is a sign that reads, Beware...Sudden 60 ft. Drop......yikes....another good reason to be an experienced boater

the squiggly red line at the bottom shows the changes in elevation....this is a really tough hike.....I did part of it.....then opted for a trail that took me to the river where it stayed pretty flat for awhile

That elevation curve looks BRUTAL - if I'm reading it right, that's a 600-ft change in elevation! Not once, not twice, but over and over.... I'd be lucky to have any knees left if I went a quarter of the distance.....

yes you read it right.....and some of it isn't very gradual....too much for me.....and I'm used to ups and downs of half of that.....but that was more than I wanted to tackle....i was having a hard time going Down.....so didn't want to have to try to come back up....No Way Jose

One of my cousins suffered a heart attack at an early age (in his 40s), brought on by his fondness for nose candy. After getting a pacemaker, he turned himself around, cleaned himself up, and even hit the treadmill. He told me he was ready for Mount Monadnock. I suggested maybe he should start out with an easier hike, but he was adamant, so I took him up. To his credit, he made it to the summit, but for the final half mile he was panting, "I can't wait to head back down!" "Dan," I told him, "going down is even harder than coming up." He scoffed, but when we finally returned to the trailhead he said, "I hate to admit it, Cuz - but you were right."

Nobody ever got hurt falling UP a mountain..........
