Indeed. Steely blue.
Nice shot. Reminds me of the Pac. NW.... like Astoria, OR. (Hester could testify to this).

Bridge on a not so gloomy day.

Yorktown waterfront bustling with activity. Just like in the colonial days.

Quite contrasting, the gloomy gray only the Atlantic can exude, and surprising sunny beachscapes; a moment of Florida in the gray north except for the more northern light. I can see the hue and value in it, slightly darkened and more contrasted, how to touch up the photos for enhancement.
for instance, your gloomy gray day is actually much richer than your photo reveals. I have enhanced the photo to show the subtle brilliance that is playing throughout the scene.

Grey North?
I'll have you know I am below the Mason Dixon Line!
Not far below but below enough.

When you look at my interpretation of your gloomy sub-northern gray day, you can see purples and reds in the water of the mouth of whatever glorious river it is that is flowing out to sea....and the rocks on the abuttment are a deep earth red, my goodness, and the sky, well, it is a dancing maze of reflecting rose hues and soft gray-blues.
My seventh grade teacher, Mrs. Dixon, was a preacher's wife. My goodness, we were rascals and sweethearts.

I hope one day to experience what you describe.
To get a glimse of what is below here, one has to wait
for the dead of winter when the freezing cold clears the water.
Even then five or six feet of visability through the lifeless cold water is tops.
I have an open invitation to visit the Iva W. as a working guest of course. Hands on I am. If it weren't for the wife and kids I would already be there.

Sorry Jim, I got quite confused with your post but I believe I got it figured out now. Yes your enhancement of my photo does show a more colorful gloom.

A more colorful gloom
lit up the room
from shadows and dust
and rot and rust.
So the boat, excuse me, does Florita in the winters
and Chesapeake Bay summers? Guess it goes down the intra-coastal waterway, then across the canal through Lake Okeechobee, and on to Everglades City, a haven for smugglers and castaways.
