"Colombian Ball" by Fernando Botero ( oil on canvas)

Fernando Botero is a world-famous Colombian painter I have known about since high school. Botero, whose art is available in many English-language art books, became famous for painting ordinary Colombians, characters rather on the rotund and slightly comical side.

Now the 75-year-old artist is one of the first to do a series of paintings based on the U.S. initiated and promulgated atrocities at Abu Ghraib prison.

strange effect to see the well fed Botero´s figures (I enjoyed all the terms the articles uses to avoid the simply fat!) as victims of torture.
