"Riding the Phoenix Penny Haiku"
By Steve Plonk
I am riding "the Great Speckled Bird" through time
The winds of changes have blown my mind--
But I come out smelling like poesy,
So far, in fortune's temperate clime...
Riding old daddy Phoenix through
Bad times and good,
Trying my best to do as I should...
Meeting the fates in the air.

We got eight inches here and it has shut down everything. We might get more... It is the most we've gotten in Chattanooga in at least fourteen years.
Let us know if you got any snow where you are. I know Virginia probably got some. So did western North Carolina. The Smoky mountains got blanketed.

The woods, today,
Are like a hall,
In the early morning light,
Flickering with sugar marble white,
Glistening as the birds twitter,
While I'm listening...

Re: "Chat Spot"
a long hallway on the top floor and
the door at the end of the hall
in a three story brick house
near the waterfront in Baltimore
that door at the end of the hall intrigued me as a child
I only ever saw it open once
and I made a bee line for it
I still remember the fear on my grandmother's face
when she grabbed me and picked me up
after that the door was allways locked
and she hid the key very well
I searched her room for it every chance I got.
late morning in South Texas
cold and blustery
something to type about
chit chat

Re: "Chat Spot"
I remember a red ,dragon decorated, footlocker that my paternal grandparents had. It was in a closet at the end of a long hallway. My grandmother let me see what was in it. She had some of my Dad's school and army photos in there and an article telling of her volunteer work for the Red Cross. In addition, there were photos of my granddad in the merchant marines and the American Expeditionary Forces in the Russian maritime provinces. Moreover, there was a twelve piece silverwares setting in there. My grandma kept her old passports in there, too. I still have Grandma's old passport which I inherited along with some of my dad's photos. I also saw an old 'buntline special" revolver which was in there. It was well oiled and loaded with a safety lock on it. I don't know what happened to it. Perhaps it was sold or pawned. My sister inherited the silverware settings.

Mine, had a hidden tall and cylinder tin filled with money she'd stolen for fifty plus years from him. She said he deserved it, though she never spent a penny of it. Just kept it in the sewing room like a pet monster.
`Do you know, I was so angry, Kitty,' Alice went on...`when I saw all the mischief you had been doing, I was very nearly opening the window, and putting you out into the snow! And you'd have deserved it, you

I enjoyed the tales of grandparents & hidden belongings. Anyone else care
to chat or tell a story about grandparents or family?

Re: "Chat Spot"
My grandmother used to say to my father, "Don, if you saved just one dollar a day every day, you'd be surprised how much money you'd have at the end of the year!"
My dad would reply, "I'd be surprised if it were anything other than $365."

Re: "Chat Spot"
Doreen, Money mounts up just like the calvary! Boo Yah! Good saying, $365 is better than none... Just think, if we all did that we'd have twice that in two years plus interest. I try to save a little and eventually have a "nest egg"... Just think what may happen with five dollars a day. Increments in my life...Retirement on five dollars a day...Huh? $1825 dollars a year and so on...
But you have to keep it in the bank/credit union and not spend it to get interest...So they say.
Folkses, what else is on your mind? Chat in the chattery, I know you're out there people...Come on down and post a spell...

Is there an emoticon for "I just sat in something wet, but I'm not going to let it ruin my day"?
