Ron Gang is an artist who lives on kibbutz Urim, about 13 kms from my kibbutz Nir Oz.

He's an ex-Canadian. i ran into him in 2000 when i was looking for an online image of a Sabra Cactus plant to put together with a poem i'd written. Lo and behold, the artist was and is a neighbour.

His images often repeat, because desert is repetitive, but look at this:

i remember that i ran into ron's work on the net accidentally and posted a pic of one of his works on a forum on the net to illustrate whatever that particualr thread was about (can't remember), and you, j, saw it and told me that he was your neighbour, practically... funny world, small world.

i love the way he paints.
it might not be specifically "different", but it's exactly the sort of painting that speaks to me.... and i think it might be the way i'd paint if i was (were?) painting.

thank for bringing his work to my attention, again - i just spent quite some time perusing through his works and found so many amazing gems!

small worlds coincide.
he might be doing yoga with Irit, the wife of Doron, my tai chi instructor.

we'll probably all bump into one another in zambia for a cause that is vital to all of us.

Thank you, judih.

I enjoyed these thickly-impastoed rather expressionistic landscapes, and many of the self-portraits as well.

Avigdor Arikha, another Israeli artist ( and world-famous, I should add), is a person from whom I have learned much.

And there is much to learn from Ron Gang's careful attention to the nuances of landscape and color.

He's the sort of artist I might like to meet--- but he's very far away, occupying his territory well, understanding the "bones" of the landscape, with an attentive eye, and a deep understanding.

Again, thank you. And thanks to Mr. Gang.

yes, Zlatko. There's much to experience in these paintings.

There's a show right this moment at Kibbutz Urim, but there is not kibbutz car available. Otherwise, i'd go and bring back tales.

One day!

I enjoyed perusing Ron's site and anyone that enamored of trees is alright by me.

Like Zlatko, I like his impastoed style especially the trees against the sky. Also liked his prickly pears which have to be transplants too as cacti are native to the Americas but there they are, growing in Israel, big as life.

His self-portraits are very good, revealing an inner side of the man. If you ever get the chance to meet him (I think you will) it should be very interesting for both of ya's.

Thanks judih...

Love.
