Religious Experience

Post by Lightning Rod » June 1st, 2005, 11:04 am

Religious Experience

It was the morning after the night before

my tongue tasted like a cigar butt soaking in spilled beer

on some sleazy lounge floor

so I had to think about religion

I'm sure Jesus Christ understood human misery

after all. he could turn water into wine.

If I were the Son of God

I would turn water into beer.

but alas, Im merely mortal

so I can only turn beer into water.

Why couldn't I have been born a Mohammedan?

or a detached practitioner of Zen?

Then,

I wouldn't have to love my fucking enemies

at this time of day.

But then again, Muslims don't understand

the spiritual value of a hangover. It teaches us the essence of humility.

The sin of Pride is almost impossible to commit

when you are waking up in your own vomit.

My uncle was a religious man.

He used to say

He felt sorry tor those that didn't drink

Because when they got up in the morning

That's the best they were going to feel all day.

Then he would pop the cork and kneel to pray.

A practicing Cathaholic devout

He knew just how to get the demons out.

Hair of the Dog
Hair of the Dog
is my religion.
What fills you kills you
in the ruptured rapture of my vision
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

The Poet's Eye

L rod.... I can relate.... it happens once in a while (generally, once in a great while)....

You captured that Godawful taste.... the low subsistence and numb sort of humility.... "poverty and spit", as the punk band X put it.... "take the scissors, saw the head", etc....

good stuff....

thanks

Not being
the son of God,

I turn wine
into urine.

Heya LR,

There were some really good lines in this one, the stand outs for me being:

"But then again, Muslims don't understand

the spiritual value of a hangover. It teaches us the essence of humility.

The sin of Pride is almost impossible to commit

when you are waking up in your own vomit. "

And......

"My uncle was a religious man.

He used to say

He felt sorry tor those that didn't drink

Because when they got up in the morning

That's the best they were going to feel all day.

Then he would pop the cork and kneel to pray. "

Anyways, thanks for posting it, solid read.
