LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

Beautiful snowflakes
Shining in the sun--

I may go mad if you leave me--(speaking in hyperbole sometimes it work well in some poems
however, too much of it(the lines_ can seem a bit force. anyway this literal poem tell a story.

Well, come on all of you, allies, women & men,
Prez Obama needs your help again.
He’s got himself a brand new plan
Way down yonder in Afghanistan
So put down your books & pick up a gun,
We’ve got the Taliban on the run.
Hey, allies out there, we need a helping hand,
Way the sandhill out there in Afghanistan...
Come on, fine people show us the way,
S/he who ducks & covers lives to fight another day...

Afghanistan is a world away...didn't hear the news when this poem was written. I wrote it as a
parody of Country Joe McDonald's "Fixing to Die Rag".
Senseless murders in
Connecticut...not yet a subject for this thread,
probably a poor time to post it, had I known.
From the Bible, Revelations 21: 4-7, see below,4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5And he that sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. THE MILE

Arms & legs churning
Back & forth, up & down,
Heartbeat ringing in the ears...
Striving & straining to
Come in first.
After the second lap it is
Heard faintly, the game is
Going again, it is almost
Unbearable, it continues
Like a torture.
A pool game is going on
Inside the head—the billiard
Balls are racked up &
The cue stick reverberates—
The spheres scatter.
On & on the game continues
Balls sink into the pockets
One after one after one—
Must not let the eight ball go
In prematurely.
Keeping legs from coming
To a halt—finished third lap—
Now, the game ponderously
Crawls on to the last three—
Eight, nine, & six.
Faster & faster—cue to
Nine to six, right corner pocket
Eight ball in side cavity—
Quickly across the finish line,
YEA, PLACED FIRST!

Sometimes we wonder
Why there aren't any spoons?...
Just plenty of knives & sporks,
With starving people ready
To cut something in various
Corners of the globe...
In the background,
The radio plays:
"O Little Town of Bethlehem"--

Poor Bethlehem, rests its
Collective head on stones...
Meanwhile, a shiny beast
Slouches its way to Bethlehem,
As the pilgrims try to survive
A week in the "Holy Land"...
Grant us a boon, Savior King,
Who was visited by three
Wise men bearing three gifts...
More than two thousand years ago--
What gifts do we really have
To top these, many eons hence?

A cave, as shooting stars
Announced the angels watching,
As the animals about him stood,
The cattle, the sheep, the donkey,
Barn dogs & cats, the shepherds--
Savior King born in a stable rude

To be able to glimpse your message?

Hey Steve... though I like your work, I wanted to answer your question. I don't think you'll get very many readers or replies unless you reply to the works of others and interact with them. Just an idea.
I stop by and read your works from time to time and I like your writing (just to let you know) but since they're all in one post, it makes it harder to reply to them. I do that, too, sometimes. I post a series of poems in one post (not one after the other like you, but similar... a series)... and rarely anybody replies to the series posts I post and I interact with the community so I'm thinking maybe both of us should just post one at a time in separate threads and also interact with the community and reply to their pieces, too.
I'm just answering the question you posed which I quoted.

Doreen, glad you like my poems. My poems are in a series because they are easier to keep track of.
After I've published a few, like between twelve & twenty-five, if they are small poems, I retire the thread
& start a new one...
I do reply & comment on others poems. I can think of several regulars I read.
I don't think it's that hard to scroll down. . Some threads have several pages… I've gotten more than a hundred hits on this one, but no comments until yours. I am unlikely to change my way of doing it. It's their business whether folks comment back or not. Some folks poetry is more popular than others...
I've already retired one thread on this site.
