Hello there. Here are some more poems:
LADY MORPHINE—Circa 2010
By Steve Plonk
Lady Morphine & I had a forced embrace
I had an operation, she took me out of that place,
She wanted me to come back & dance—
But I told here with the words: Fat Chance.
Even so, my head spun round & round
I felt like I was falling down underground,
I spun down a chute as light as a feather
Then as I awoke someone mentioned the weather…
My head ceased to connect with my bed &
I floated with the stars in my nappy head—
The Olympics were playing on the TV &
I was drawn into the tube on a “luge” as
I spun down tubes which were huge—
Lady Morphine waved to me as I spun by
Drip by drip on my morphic high—
I was so effected that I forgot the pain…
I glimpsed a scenario of snow turned to rain
Then sleet, then hail, then snow again—
Lady Morphine waved,
Said she was my friend,
I answered by saying
“Who needs frenemies!”
“Get away from me, Lady Morphine!”
“Your crystal “luge” is not for me
Nor are the chutes & ladders I do see—
I don’t like being inside the TV”
I hitch my craft to a star,
I want this “morphine drip” race to end
Just as I said it, I came around the bend…
“Go, Lady Morphine, bother someone else,”
I asked the nurse to put the rest of the morphine
On the shelf & the nurse ended this episode with Lady Morphine.
HOWLING JUNKINOO BLUES
By Steve Plonk
I live in Chattanooga
Never been to the Dry Tortuga
Chasin’ a dream of music
Music of seldom heard chords
Music of the beauty of the Lord
Hearing animal sounds
Singing for the ages
Opening new pages
Dreamt I had a “woofinator”
Which could imitate any dog’s bark..
Hearing Mardi Gras bands in New Orleans,
Hearing junkinoo music in the Bahamas,
***
Sadie, a bloodhound bays next door
From her doghouse—
My cat, Lee, meows right back from our porch—
Cats Chaps, & Jett meow an answer…
A couple of old crows caw back from their treetop perch—
Sky opens up, rain lifts up with the clouds,
I sing this lyric out loud—
Trees wave & make crackling sounds
Making like they have something to say…
Moon starts to rise
Through magenta clouds
Appears to smile
Through the clouds…
As birds fly south
Over Georgia pines
Making sounds that
Only birds can make—
Full of grit & heartache…

TREES BACKLIT BY MOON
By Steve Plonk
Trees backlit by the moon,
Water sloushing through a flooded room,
While aboard a boat,
I eat soup with a wooden spoon,
All in a late madrugada night
Floating in a lagoon…
Meanwhile, there are sounds of thunder,
As hazel eyes are tearful in the rain…
RETURNING TO ATLANTA FROM FRISCO
By Steve Plonk
In flight, 39,978 ft., from San Francisco, CA,
Crossing Colorado River Valley over Utah,
Returning from Frisco to Atlanta—
Now, five minutes later in Colorado
See low lying clouds over river canyons
Speed: 576 mph
See Grand Junction, CO,
From air—It’s starting to turn to dusk…
Next, by my reckoning, flight map shows
Lights of Denver & Colorado Springs beckoning—
Colorado Springs out left window
Now Pueblo, CO out the right window—
I have an aisle seat & can barely see out both windows
Helped by flight map on screen…
Now, the passenger on the right window seat
Closes his window partly as we go over a corner of Kansas…
Then shortly, we pass over Fayetteville, Ark., Little Rock,
Then Memphis, TN in quick order: It’s now suddenly 10:30 EST,
Next, in an hour we’re over Decatur, Alabama & Huntsville
Heading down to Atlanta, GA, at 36,724 ft., speed 562 MPH…
Now, 11 pm, altitude 32,063 ft. banking at 556 MPH, then
Descending to 29,111 ft. at 549 MPH…
Then we fly over Gadsden, Ala. & Anniston, Ala.—
Plane descends more preparing for final descent at 18,163 ft.,
Going 463 MPH near Cedartown, GA,
Then we come flying between Cartersville & Kennesaw, GA, circling,
At 14,425 ft., going a speed of 439 MPH, after which we get a heading to Atlanta,
And go down to 12, 321 ft., slowing to 384 MPH, in Metro Atlanta near East Point &
Circle into the runway after a long dive into a good smooth landing…
Back home in Chattanooga, TN
@ 3:30 am, on 10/23/14.
Many thanks to the pilot & crew & to the custodians who
Gave directions to the economy parking lot, from a nearly
Deserted Atlanta Airport…
TO OUR CAT: 12/11/15
One Year Anniversary
By Steve Plonk
Lee, Lee, your’re furry as can be,
Late at night your eyes glow
In the dim nightlight…
Lee, Lee, we’ve had you for a year
You are a cat we hold so dear
Oh, Lee, dark brown with gold highlights,
We’re proud to have chosen to have you here.
Lee, you’re a wonderful pet, you see,
Oh sweet furry Lee, in Chatt. Town, Tennessee.
You play with your ball on a circular track,
You watch it come around, then come right back,
Lee, you greet us at the door like a pooch.
Such a sweet pet, we’ll give you a smooch, Oh, sweet Lee.
Such a sentimental lyric for a dear cat,
Songs like this are meant for that—
Like an old “doo-wop” melody—
Just for you, sweet cat named Rosie Lee…
