TV "24"

Post by stilltrucking » March 30th, 2006, 2:15 am

Herndon, Va.: Did you read Hank Steuver's piece on Kim of the TV show "24" yesterday?

It is perhaps the single best television critique I've ever read -- and I've never watched the show. The paragraph below is particularly great.

"Kim, the danger-prone teenage daughter of Counter Terrorism Unit special agent Jack Bauer, fits a certain niche in these frantic times. Without meaning to, she has come to represent the vapidity and naive innocence of a Britney Nation caught up in something deadly serious, with only her wits and the occasional visibility of her nipples to save her.

washingtonpost.com: Run, Kim, Run, (Post, April 21)

Gene Weingarten: It was terrific, like most of Stuever's stories.

ok listen, flapjack, there is first of all nothing wrong with nipples, vapid women or innocence. kim's general absense from the show this season, except to appear briefly with her scrawny goateed former therapist-turned-asshole-taking-advantage-of-blonde-babe-with-supple-breasts jerkface boyfriend in order to try to humiliate jack bauer is the only bad thing about this otherwise excellent season of 24. second of all, the actual critique is no longer available on the post's website, so, unlike an episode of 24, the critique therefore sucks, and would probably benefit from one of the show's tactics, or, former tactics, rather, which was to, in the event of having to distract from something bad (for the show, this would be a dragging plot or excessive whining from the president's wife; for the post, this means blocking off content after mere days in order to justify stupid internet access fees), they would show kim running from danger in a thin and tight-fitting shirt. if instead of some link relaying the information that the post article was now a dead link, i were to see an animated gif of elisha cuthbert jumping up and down on a trampoline holding a copy of the washington post, i might actually go buy the thing.

o wait. the original article was from 2003. dude, what the hell are you reading?

i say: RUN KIM RUN!
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.

:) thanks first one

I have never seen the show, I hear it is pretty good though. I wiish could remember how I surfed my way to that quote. I may have been googling nipple rings. with My got dam geezer memory I spend half my time looking for my car keys. I was thinking that might be a good way to keep track of them. Just have a little clip on thing.

Well not to change the subject but I just heard a bit on Fresh Air that I liked, Tom Friedman (Of Flat Earth Fame) talking about how we got into this mess in Iraq. He blames it on the Rumsfeld doctrine. "Just enough troops to lose."

everyone is expendable. mostly the poor and disadvantaged. give me your huddled masses, your poor and disadvantaged souls. i will send them off to fight for nothing, to wave flags and pass my bucks directly into my bank account for my cokehead daughters and oil cronies and saudi princes who bomb my buildings for me.
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.

Crazy Mike mike, they made a movie about his life, they called it Fiddler On The Roof. He Got his citizenship in WW One, merchant maringe. He always loved that play The Hairy Ape.

Yeah plenty of mercenaries but a lot of small town hillbillies from the white trash mountains of virginia with no where to go but Iraq, and you should see the adds that the christian zionist churches run, before and after, the unemployed bum to a outstanding young man in uniform getting married in a church, then a happy picture of a wife and baby. On ward christian soldiers.

Way over a million soldiers been deployed to iraq on rotation, we only here about the hundred thousand that are there at any given moment.

So what's your story on the huddled masses? Dick's family been here for a couple hundred years at least.

me and my people we been here less than a hundred years. my paternal greatgrandfather exiled himself from ireland back in the day and his homeland family disowned him for it. maternally via hungary same generation became coal miners in appalachia. war service in my family tree runs pretty much parallel to time spent. my grandfather was a lt. col and helped engineer the normandy invasion. my father was nearly courtmartialed on a boat in nam for disrespecting the authoritay, and if i ever get near a military base my balls run for their lives.

i got lucky. my dad got a good job with a military industrialist contractor and i grew up middle class in nowhere suburb. other branches of my family tree werent so lucky; i've got cousins in the service, my godson too.

if i go to war it will be to defend my home. all other wars are unjust. i think i should start stocking weapons, tho. i feel a bad moon rising.

and if i go to war, i want jack bauer on my side. you dont want to cross jack bauer. if jack bauer went head to head against rambo, james bond and the terminator, theyd have to have God on their side just for a fighting chance.
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.

If I go to war it will be with Billy Pilgrim, I want to be a chaplain's assistant. and the most dangerous thing I would carry would be a pencil stub.
