day of the squirrels

Post by constantine » July 18th, 2009, 10:09 pm

i knew they weren't carnivorous
i mean they're squirrels for christ's sake
still, the actuarial tables are filled
with anomalous demises,
amusing to all - except the victim

six in the morning, street deserted
they came down from the trees
singly, then in twos and threes
looking hungry and furtive
like they were considering something
something bold and different
something ...exotic

could they smell my fear
animals have been known to do that
squirrels are animals, thus
squirrels can smell fear
plus, and this is the god's truth
each one of those squirrelly bastards
was looking dead into my eyes
trying to stare me down
like boxers before they mix it up

don't know why they didn't attack me
guess it was the size of the nut
