third girl from the left

Post by constantine » July 21st, 2008, 10:09 am

i'm prone to emotional entanglements
of a fevered, imaginary kind
it's like there's a theatre in my head
like it's all going on upstairs
in the balcony of the balcony
photons simmer on the silver screen
how many women have i loved
the waitress, the librarian,
the elevator girl,
jane in the treehouse -
cheetah was going nuts
i love them all and always will
somewhere
there is a woman in the dark
who understands me
likes how i carry myself
my dark, brooding features
my winning smile
how many women have i loved
there's no telling
extras and walk ons
the third girl from the left
with the blue eyes
the big sleepers
that have seen a lot
that know the score
but don't care for addition
i like the way her knee bends
as if swept away by the pleasure
and passion of the kiss
that settles everything
doesn't matter baby
the troubles of a lifetime forgotten
the anger and frustration
all the shitty things i did
gone bye-bye
i can see it in your eyes
a hundred feet away
fifty feet high
if she knew me she would love me
she loves me she loves me not
fifty years ago she would've loved me
but i was just a baby then

God bless, if it gets any hotter around here I'm gonna have to buy a nuclear cooling unit for the 'puter just to read these things...solid,cons,I've been subject to a bit of this kind of thing myself.
Of course, I'd never admit it publicly, of course. I was never here. You don't know me. I didn't write this.
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

here is a companion piece, dino
from my book The Heart Has Many Signals

------
Head vs. Overhead

I've used every trick to get
into the pants of women
I've been the sheltering, calm
I've been the brash and conceited
I've been the fairy waiting to be turned out
I've been the industrious and preoccupied
I've been the non-chalant and self-assured
I've been the crack-up needs a mother
I've been the swift and the sleek
I've been the dark and the pitiful
I've been the slow and the steady
I've been patient and cunning
I've been the shark and the bandit
and the dashing robin hood
I've used tears and lies and hard cash money
to get on the other side of that silk
the fragrant barrier 'tween tongue and slick membrane
the nest into which all poets wish to wiggle
a fermented peach spins my head in brandy
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

The Poet's Eye
