the road

thought I'd had enough.
what was once tiresome
now holds my soul in its hands
gently pulling, never letting go,
even in my sleep, it is
the landscape of my dreams -
my nocturnal neighborhood,
repository of cues and symbols
I have not now!
not here, only there
always there...
I have traveled lighter
than I thought possible,
an unhealthy lightness -
like unwanted pounds
my identity has been shed.
dwindling...I dawdle,
about which - I don't know.

This style.... it's so intimate, so honest.

It's a little different side of you than I've seen in your other poems.
(not that your other styles aren't honest... I hope you know what I mean)

It's so special and intense.

Thanks for sharing this.

A fine piece of writing.

thanks for resurrecting this from the abyss. it is an older poem that changes for me as i read it from time to time. i know - i know , it is me that is changing, but poems change with us; they have a metaphorical life. again thanks, it never got a lot of comments - though i've always believed in it.

I remember this now. I posted my "road" illustration to accompany it on AC.

You're right. Poems are definitely alive.

I read it this time and I thought it was a different poem. :)

Poems change with us, for sure.
