it's a squalid little mess,
the instrumentality,
the way things are
the things you have to do,
this artifice, this fire
breathing idol that devours
its worshippers, and belches out smoke

and you pay, you pay
for everything, you pay
for everything twice,
again and again
there is not a single minute,
not one inch of space,
that you don't pay for
in a million different ways,
so that you don't even realize
it when you see it all the time

i don't know what to do.
am i making any sense?

Moloch takes a toll
my advice is to get an instrument
and play
then you can play for pay or play for pay

I know, I commented at length on another site, but still wanted to add
that paying comes in many forms, the least of which is actually shucking out dollars.......this is one of the reason that a vibrant community is so important...get to know your neighbors, volunteer
to clean up the block.....here at studio 8, is another important type of community of people trying to reach out and connect through their
writing...our power is in these types of connections....good poem...

these lines could fit well below the title "inflation poem" in my country!!!! (more than twice is and was also possible!!!). It has also some pedagogic iteration!!!!!
