too much has happened
experience has taught us
the error of our ways
we cover our scars
with cocoa butter and long sleeves
with paying bills on time
acting responsibly
we are adults now
notice how i keep saying we
i want to ask her
but i'm afraid, last night
i asked her in a dream
come with me
i'll try harder
i'm different, better
i can make it up to you
i turned my head and closed my eyes
so strange to close your eyes in a dream
refusing to see what you already know

There's something about this piece that recalls multiple experiences in my past- the asking of a question in which we two knew the answer...He was never going to change, and I never saw a future...
