i walk with her
through the zealand forest
her diminutive talons fall, lightly
upon lush moss and lichen
she likes lichen, as i do
a nibble - here and there
in moderation, of course
i nestle under her wing-like appendage
the soft down of her wing-socket
warm against my tongue
little beasties, a bounty of beasties
stir, and scurry through her feathers
like the myrmidons of achilles
scouring the plain of troy
stripping the armor of the sons of priam
and heaping humiliation with their pitiless bronze
upon their broken corpses...
she wears her parasites like the night
cloaked in ambient protein
a meal unto itself, given freely
by this petite and diminutive avian
i would kill for her - so don't try anything

you've got a bad case of the Flightless Bird......worse than the Avian Flu.......well written, creative, funny, and left open to more than the obvious.....

My second read was just as much of a blast! You trip the light fantastic, with Trojan War and ornithology meshed. Super cool.
